NFL Insiders Link Bears to Two Cornerbacks, New Pass Rusher Ahead of 2026 NFL Trade Deadline ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

The Chicago Bears aren’t done dealing, and cornerback just might be their next move.

The 2026 NFL Trade Deadline is officially less than a week away. And while the Bears have already made their big splash move with the acquisition of defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, it doesn’t sound like the team is done shopping.

Add ESPN insiders Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler to the list of NFL reporters sharing noteworthy Bears-related intel that suggests the team is still active in the trade market. At a minimum, the latest from around the league should certainly pique your interest as a fan who is hoping this front office can tack on one or two more pieces ahead of the Nov. 10 NFL Trade Deadline. I know seeing two cornerbacks and an edge rusher pop up as possible trade fits grabbed my attention.

First, we can start with Graziano, who says the Bears are “still poking around on potentially available cornerbacks.” Joining them here are the Detroit Lions, one of Chicago’s NFC North rivals. These two teams have yet to square off this season, and won’t take the field against each other until later this month on Thanksgiving. That adds a little extra spice to this potentially budding arms race. However, the Lions’ inclusion here represents a hurdle that makes for a better seller’s market, especially with two foes in the same division going after players in the same position group. Nevertheless, the cornerback market remains something we need to continue monitoring.

As for Fowler, he names two cornerbacks (in the same piece) the Bears could be targeting:

The Bears have been linked to edge rushers such as Khalil Mack, but a few league evaluators told me what you heard — that cornerback is becoming more of a need. Tyrique Stevenson Sr. and Jaylon Johnson have had their up-and-down moments this season. And while Malik Muhammad II is flashing, he’s a rookie. Washington’s Mike Sainristil is a name that has circulated this week, though I don’t get the sense the Commanders plan to trade him. An available corner such as the Eagles’ Riq Woolen for a Day 3 pick could make sense.

We’ve spilled a fair amount of virtual ink on Riq Woolen, whose name keeps coming up in trade rumors. But now we have a potential asking price, with Fowler mentioning a Day 3 pick as likely compensation.

Chicago’s front office already shipped off one Day 3 pick to reel in Jeffery Simmons. As things stand now, they still have three such picks in the 2027 NFL Draft — a fifth-rounder from the Falcons, as well as their own selections in Rounds 6 and 7. I suppose the Bears can use their selections in Rounds 2 and 3 to trade back and create more pick currency on NFL Draft weekend. That said, it makes for a tricky team-building situation. But we can cross that bridge when we get to it.

New Names Linked to Bears Ahead of 2026 NFL Trade Deadline

Circling back to Fowler’s mention of Mike Sainristil. That is a name I wasn’t familiar with until Fowler mentioned him in the piece linked above.

Sainristil, 26, was a second-round pick (50th overall) in the 2024 NFL Draft. The University of Michigan product was a first-team All-American in 2023 and part of the Wolverines’ national championship-winning team. He has 41 games (32 starts) under his belt. But it looks like his playing time has diminished, as he has gone from playing on 90 percent of Washington’s defensive snaps in 2024 and 2025 to just 39 percent in 2026. For what it’s worth, Sainristil still has another year of team control on his rookie deal. To me, that makes him a more intriguing candidate than he was before I started writing this post.

After the Bears’ trade for Jeffery Simmons, I’ve reached a point where I’d rather see the Bears trade for a cornerback than another defensive lineman. Don’t get me wrong. If it were up to me, Chicago’s front office would fill both of those needs with trades. But if I had to choose one or the other, the Simmons trade makes it easier for me to pick cornerback. And yet, I’m still open to the Bears trading for more defensive line help. And it sounds like the Bears are, too, with ESPN’s Courtney Cronin noting that it “might not cost the Bears more than a Day 3 pick” to add to the collection of edge rushers.

ESPN’s Seth Walder even drops a new name for us to be aware of ahead of the deadline:

Who should they target? Dolphins edge Josh Uche. The Bears already paid a ton to bring in Simmons, so I assume they’ll be seeking bargains for the rest of deadline season. But they still could use some help at edge, and Uche could contribute to that rotation alongside Montez Sweat, Austin Booker and Daniel Hardy. This season, Uche has recorded a pass rush win rate that ranks in the 60th percentile and a pressure rate in the 35th percentile at edge.

Uche is a 28-year-old University of Michigan product who played for the New England Patriots (2020-24), Kansas City Chiefs (2024), and Philadelphia Eagles (2025) before joining the Miami Dolphins this past offseason. Uche has 2 sacks, 4 tackles-for-loss, and 5 quarterback hits in seven games. The numbers aren’t going to knock your socks off, but adding useful defensive line help never hurt anyone. And while Khalil Mack would still be the preferred target, the Bears would be wise to open up to other possibilities.
