Welp. So much for the Tyson Bagent-to-Baltimore speculation. Despite rumors on Sunday that the Ravens were interested in and even contacted the Bears, Bagent, in the wake of Lamar Jackson heading to injured reserve and Tyler Huntley being hurt in the same game, the Ravens are going in a different direction.
According to Ian Rapoport, Baltimore is finalizing a deal with the Arizona Cardinals to acquire veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett this afternoon. At the time of publishing, there’s no reporting on the return heading to Arizona for Brissett’s services, but I wouldn’t expect it to be much.

Brissett was benched on Sunday in the third quarter of the Cardinals’ win against the Cowboys. Brissett went 10-of-23 for 119 yards, didn’t throw a touchdown, but did toss an interception. Veteran backup Gardner Minshew replaced Brissett and completed 17-of-23 for 188 yards and three touchdowns as Arizona stormed back with 20 points in the fourth quarter to beat Dallas 33-30 in overtime.
The Cardinals announced this week that Minshew would be there starter moving forward and that rookie Carson Beck would be elevated to the No. 2 role behind him, essentially ending Brissett’s time in Arizona.
On Tuesday, the Ravens announced that undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano will start when the team takes on the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday night. I said yesterday that doesn’t mean that Baltimore is out of the market for a quarterback because of it. Still, they may have felt Fagnano gave them the best chance to win tomorrow, giving them more time to weigh their options and decide whether Huntley will need to be placed on injured reserve as well.

Mandatory Credit: Jerome Miron-Imagn ImagesAs it’s worded in Rapoport’s report, the deal that will send Brissett to the Ravens is expected to be completed over the weekend, meaning Fagnano will get the start against Jacksonville tomorrow night before head coach Jessee Minter and OC Declan Doyle have to decide on who will be their quarterback next week.
As for the Bears, this felt like as good an opportunity to trade Bagent as they’ll ever have, specifically when it comes to extracting a mid-round draft pick, or something along those lines in terms of value. Baltimore’s need, coupled with Doyle’s time with Bagent last year in Chicago, was the best recipe for a deal to happen there, and now that’s off the table.
Obviously, we don’t know what the Ravens’ pursuit of Bagent looked like, if it ever really happened, or what the Bears wanted in return if it did, so that’s all context missing from the conversation about why Baltimore went with Brissett to solve their need. Either way, Bagent is staying in Chicago.
