In the Gates Town Supervisor race, Democratic challenger Nick Coffee is leading against Republican incumbent Cosmo Giunta, who has held the role since 2019. Just 273 votes separate Coffee as of Wednesday morning, with 51% of the vote, and Giunta, with 49%. However, mail-in ballots are not reflected in those totals.

News10NBC spoke with Coffee on Tuesday night at the Monroe County Democratic headquarters. He shared his reaction to the blue wave nationally, with Democrats flipping both the House and the Senate in the midterm elections.
“I acknowledge we are a small part, but it’s important. I’m so excited for all the victories across the state and the country,” Coffee said.
The Rush Town Supervisor race is also close. Republican challenger Frank Tasber is leading against Democratic incumbent Lee Hankins. Just 61 votes separate the candidates. Tasber has 50% of the votes, while Hankins has 46% and a third candidate, Mary Ellen Heyman, has 4%.
Hankins started his term in January. He was up for re-election because of a state law shifting some odd-year elections to even years in an effort to increase voter turnout.
In Monroe County, Election Night results are still unofficial. The Board of Elections must recheck votes, count absentee ballots, and certify the final results. The process could take up to two weeks, but we have a clear picture for many races.
