Democrats and incumbents Katie Kenlan and Franklin Gomez Flores are each poised to serve a second term on the Chatham County Board of Commissioners, after riding significant support on Election Night.

With 100% of precincts reporting on Tuesday, Kenlan earned roughly 68% of the vote, while Gomez Flores earned 67% of the vote over their respective Republican opponents, John Michael Crowell and Steven Ganley. The results will be certified and made official later this week.

Kenlan represents District 4 in the county, which covers the northwest and West Siler City portions of the Chatham community. The early childhood educator and daughter of a former Haw River riverkeeper, Kenlan was initially sworn in to the commissioner’s seat in December 2022.

Gomez Flores also joined the Board of Commissioners in December 2020 at 26 years of age, making him the Board’s youngest member and the first Latino to be elected to the Board. He was appointed as the Board’s Vice-Chair in 2025.

Once certified, Kenlan and Gomez Flores will take their oaths of office for another term in December, alongside Mike Roberson — who earned election unopposed to a term representing District 3, after winning a primary election in March and being appointed to the seat in the summer.
