Ann-Margret is looking back on a sweet memory with her late husband.
The 85-year-old actress, an icon of the 1960s with an illustrious film career, spent 50 years married to the love of her life: actor, producer and screenwriter Roger Smith. After tying the knot in Las Vegas in 1967, the two remained happily married up until Smith’s death at age 84 in June 2017.
On Tuesday, Nov. 3—nearly a decade after losing her husband—the Bye Bye Birdie alum took to Instagram to share a heartwarming throwback photo of her and Smith, as she lovingly reflected on the support he provided her throughout the course of their marriage.
“By my side through it all. ❤️” Ann-Margret captioned the sweet post. She reminisced on the “special evening” she had with Smith the night the photo was taken, when he accompanied her to the Best of Vegas Awards at the Tropicana in 1980.
“What a gorgeous picture of y’all,” one of Ann-Margret’s Instagram followers gushed in the comments, while another person chimed in to say, “Such a happy marriage. Beautiful couple. So blessed.”
“Roger was her Forever After,” another commenter added of Ann-Margret, who had previously been romantically linked to Elvis Presley, her co-star in the 1964 film Viva Las Vegas.
Ann-Margret dated the King of Rock and Roll for about a year in the early ’60s, as she revealed in her 1994 autobiography, per the New York Times. Presley would go on to marry Priscilla Presley in 1967, the same year that Ann-Margret and Smith said their vows.
More than nine years after Smith’s death, Ann-Margret spoke to Parade in April 2026 about the ongoing pain of losing her life partner.
“Roger meant everything to me,” she shared at the time. “We were together 54 years. It just flew by because it was really good. I sure miss him! He took great care of me.”
Smith died on June 4, 2017 at Sherman Oaks Hospital following complications from myasthenia gravis.
Ann-Margret’s latest Instagram post comes just days after she sparked concern from fans when she was spotted being pushed in a wheelchair, as Parade previously reported. Although the rare sighting prompted questions about her health, Ann-Margret seemed to be doing just fine as she was still sporting a bright smile during the outing.
