GREECE, N.Y. — Early voting has officially ended in Monroe County for the 2026 midterm elections, and the county Board of Elections reported record-breaking turnout.
More than 90,000 people cast ballots during early voting, according to the Board of Elections. The previous record was 70,000, which the county surpassed two days ago as of Sunday.
Officials said turnout has been more in line with a presidential election. They said this surge is due to voter engagement from all sides of the political spectrum.
The Board of Elections said it is still uncertain whether the high early voting turnout will be reflected on Election Day, but higher early turnout usually means higher turnout on the day itself.
“Monroe County is, it’s definitely a blue county in terms of how it, how it looks. So you’re looking, you know, when you look at figures that show more Democrats voting than Republicans or blanks, or, you know, nonaligned voters, those would be, that would be typical and wouldn’t be a surprise. Because that’s that is exactly how the county is patterned in terms of its voter registrations,” said Republican Commissioner Peter Elder with the Monroe County Board of Elections.
Greece Town Hall was the most popular polling place, with over 13,000 people already casting their ballot. Election Day is Tuesday.
Tuesday is also the deadline to postmark an absentee ballot or to deliver it in person at the board of elections. All postmarked ballots must be received no later than Nov. 10.
