ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Compeer Rochester hosted its seventh annual Compeer Mile Walk on Sunday, bringing together hundreds of people to support mental health programs and community connection.
The event began as a pandemic response and has grown into a signature fundraiser, drawing people for a walk through downtown Rochester. Organizers said the walk helps fight seasonal depression and builds community at a time when days grow shorter.
“I think a lot of people here come here, we don’t, don’t really know what we do as far as bringing pairs together and companionships and friendships and mentorship relationships, and to see it all kind of come together,” said Sara Passamonte, CEO of Compeer Rochester.
This year’s walk raised about $60,000 to support Compeer’s programs. Organizers said they need 1,000 people to close down the street next year.
