Thank you!The ZAFRO 150-Pint Smart Dehumidifier offers Wi-Fi controls, impressive moisture removal capacity, and coverage for large spaces, but its app limitations and inconsistent performance features leave room for improvement.
When we moved into our home 14 years ago, we discovered a few environmental issues that needed attention, including fungal growth in the crawlspace and a vapor barrier that needed replacing. That experience taught us how important moisture control is for maintaining a healthy home. Excess humidity can contribute to mold and mildew growth, musty odors, and other moisture-related problems, making it important to keep humidity levels under control. So we’ve wanted to add a Dehumidifier to our house for quite some time. The ZAFRO 150-Pint Smart Dehumidifier looked like a good option for our house.

User Experience
Setting up the ZAFRO 150-Pint Smart Dehumidifier was incredibly easy because there was no assembly required. I simply removed it from the box, took off the protective packaging, and plugged it in. Within minutes, it was ready to go.
The app was one of the features I was most excited to try because I wanted to be able to monitor the dehumidifier’s operation and track its usage. Once I plugged in the unit, connecting it to my Wi-Fi network and pairing it with the app was the next step. I did have to create a user account, but there was no charge to do so.
Unfortunately, the app’s controls are fairly basic, which was a little disappointing. I can turn the dehumidifier on and off remotely, select different operating modes, adjust the fan speed, and turn the ambient lighting on or off. The app also lets me set timers and check whether the firmware is up to date.
What I really wanted, however, was the ability to monitor the water level in the collection tank. That information isn’t available in the app, so I have to physically check the unit to see how full the tank is. I was also hoping for notifications when the tank needed to be emptied, but that isn’t an option.
The app does include a device statistics section, but I noticed some inconsistencies in its reported operating time. Some daily totals exceeded 24 hours, and the overall runtime didn’t appear to match how often I had actually used the dehumidifier. In addition to that, when I looked at the weekly totals, it was showing 5,345 h 6 m as the total, which is more than 222 days of time. The dehumidifier has only been installed for 2 weeks at the time of publishing. These totals made me question the accuracy of the usage data, particularly since tracking operation was one of the main reasons I was looking forward to the connected features.
My initial intention was to run the ZAFRO continuously as much as possible. However, I quickly discovered that it produces a noticeable amount of warm air, causing our living room to heat up fairly quickly. As a result, I’ve adjusted my approach and generally run it when we’re not spending time in the room.
The fan is also noticeably loud, with a sound level similar to what I would expect from an air-conditioning unit. I generally keep it on the lowest fan speed, which is adequate for my needs, but I also tested the second and third settings. Each increase in speed makes the noise more noticeable, so that’s something to consider when deciding where to place the dehumidifier.
I also have some concerns about the water collection tank. We opted to use the tank rather than connect the unit to a continuous drain hose, which means we have to empty it manually when it fills up. The dehumidifier is supposed to sound an alarm when the tank is full, and fortunately, I haven’t heard it go off. However, when I emptied the tank on the day I was writing this review, I found it was very full. That left me wondering whether the unit would reliably stop operating when the tank reached capacity.
Since the dehumidifier sits in our carpeted living room, I don’t want to risk an overflow. Without a way to monitor the tank remotely or receive an alert when it needs attention, I’m hesitant to leave it running for extended periods when we’re away or unable to check on it. I tried the timer, but it was also inconsistent with how well it worked. One time it worked, but the next time it didn’t. I’d feel much more comfortable using the dehumidifier unattended if those features were available.
Despite these concerns, the ZAFRO does appear to be removing moisture from the air as intended. When I turn it on, the humidity reading typically sits between 60% and 63%. After running it for an hour or two, that reading usually drops to around 58%. While that doesn’t bring the room into the commonly recommended 30% to 50% humidity range, it does show a reduction in humidity during my use. Having to empty the water tank also provides a tangible indication that the unit is collecting moisture.
Another feature I appreciate is the ambient lighting system. It changes colors based on the humidity level detected in the room. Yellow indicates humidity below 40%, green represents levels between 40% and 60%, and red indicates humidity above 60%. The lights are located on the top of the unit, around the water tank, and on the humidity indicator, making it easy to get a general idea of the room’s conditions without having to check the digital display. It’s a nice touch that adds some functionality to the design. Since I haven’t been able to get the humidity in the room below 60%, the light has remained red throughout my testing. Fortunately, you can also turn the ambient lighting off through the app if you prefer.
Conclusion
Overall, my experience has been mixed. The ZAFRO is easy to set up, offers convenient remote controls, and appears to do its primary job of removing moisture. However, the limited app functionality, questionable usage statistics, noticeable heat output, and lack of remote tank-level monitoring make it less convenient to use than I had hoped.
