‘The Traitors: New Blood’ Star Tomica Adams Goes Off on ‘Irritating’ Victor: ‘I Should Have Killed Him Three Times’ (Exclusive) ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

The Traitors: New Blood has arrived! Throughout the season, Mike Bloom will speak with someone from the star-studded cast who was murdered or banished on the iconic Emmy-winning reality series. When Alan Cumming tapped Tomica Adams on the shoulder, she was ecstatic. The pilot was ready to absolutely take off, eager to play as one of the titular Traitors. And that enthusiasm only increased when she saw her co-pilot would be Joe Vanella. Soon joined by Katie Fites, the first half of the flight on Air Traitor was easy breezy. Tomica was able to form a wealth of trust across the Faithfuls, all the while playing up ignorance about the game to disguise any deviousness. Her journey was soon to hit some turbulence, however. And it all began with a simple question: “Anybody want fruit?”With Joe tasked with a murder in plain sight, Tomica attempted to cover for her fellow turret resident. But all it did was make her the apple of Victor Vollbrechthausen’s eye. In one fell swoop, Tomica lost an ally in Niyyah Hayes and gained an enemy, as Victor began spreading the (correct) theory that the murder in plain sight had something to do with fruit. Like any good source of roughage, seeds were being planted, even if they weren’t necessarily sprouting. But they were about to receive a heavy dose of water.Despite “Fruitgate” gaining steam, Victor’s aggressive behavior was preventing buy-in from most of the players, to the point where he was actually banished. However, Shane Beatty had a change of heart upon seeing him in the Circle of Truth, and used his newfound power of the Pardon to save him. When the Traitors chose not to kill him, he made good on his second lease on life, somehow quadrupling down on targeting Tomica, to the point of following her from room to room. As the day went on, however, the votes began to sway from where they did the day before. Whether they believed “Fruitgate” or not, there was enough to take a bite on banishing Tomica, with nearly everyone — including both Traitors — sending her out. Read below for our interview with Tomica. And check out new episodes of The Traitors: New Blood Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.

Let me just start by asking you a point-blank question: Do you think the Pardon is the reason why you’re talking with me right now?Affirmative. 100%, easily. I think that it would have died off when Victor walked out of the castle. Why do you think that is?It was as soon as people believed he was a Faithful. If he would have said he was a Faithful and left, he would not have been able to keep screaming my name at people the rest of the time. So I would have been able to do a lot more saving of myself, versus I leave a room, he’s in a room, I leave a room. It’s fighting that, versus he’s gone and I’m like, “Wow! I made a mistake. I really thought he was recruited. We can’t catch these guys!” I could have done so much more without the irritating presence of Victor. To be fair, you had the opportunity to kill Victor that night, and you chose Abby L. instead. Talk to me about why, and how you look back on the decision.I should have killed Victor about three times. Especially when he was following me around the castle, I should have killed him on screen. But yeah, if I could go back and change things, I probably would have killed him two episodes prior in hindsight, which is 20/20. It got harder to kill him the episode after Mark, just because it was definitely showing me. So it would have been easier to mitigate the fallout further away from that time. Because really, I thought we could get them banished, which we did! We got him banished. And then we didn’t.Well, talk to me more about the day that led into your demise. Did you know your time was up by the time you got to the Roundtable?Oh, 100%. I already knew that my time was limited because before he started following me. When I would talk to people, it was like shame. They want to talk about the weather; they don’t want to look at you in the eye. Because I did have good relationships with people, and they knew that they were going to vote for me. I guess they had been going on a little bit. So I could feel that change in the rooms. So then when he started following me, it was like, “You’ve already got in my mind. You’ve already won people to some degree. Why are you following me? Leave me alone! Let me have my last moments in the castle. You’re irritating me.” But it was like, “Well, whatever. I just try to let it go.”So then what was your reaction when you saw Joe and Katie vote for you in the end? Especially after Joe threw you under the bus a little bit at the Roundtable. Not a little bit. I was like a fish stuck to the wheel of a tire. He threw me up under the bus. So that part was shocking when he said, “If it’s not you, it’s Tomica.” That part was like the solidification of me getting votes that may have been teetering. Like, “We believe it’s probably not Victor. So now we’ll just write Tomica.” Because once everyone gets swayed one way, that’s where they go. So I was not surprised they wrote my name down, but I was surprised at what Joe said.Talk to me about your relationship with Joe. Did you plan on going to the end with him, or doing some Traitor-on-Traitor violence yourself? In the game, we want to take us to the end. Period. Joe and I were like lockstep. We were good. He had my back; I had no problem. So I think, once you have to let go of someone for your own game, then you do. But if we could stay together the whole way, there would be no plan on ever doing Traitor-on-Traitor crime, per se. Because you want to have a strong turret. I think that’s the best kind of turret to have. When you have people fighting in turret, it’s a wrap. But I would not have planned to do any Traitor-on-Traitor crime at all intentionally. I messed up and said Katie’s name. That was an absolute mistake, 100%. It was not intentional. I did start thinking in the 10 minutes afterward, “Oh my gosh! Maybe I’ve got to use this to my advantage. How do I mitigate it? But in all honesty, it was a 100% mistake.”Talk to me about mitigating that. How did you react to Kriste saying it was because of menopause?[Laughs.] Well, I had been using menopause for a few other things. You know, I am a woman of a certain age. So I was using that trying to be forgetful about things. Bcause I know I was not going to be perfect in the game, so I was trying to use that from the very beginning of the game. So when she said it, it wasn’t because it hadn’t been dropped before. And it’s an easy way to shut some people up.Yeah, Victor did actually respond, “How am I supposed to say anything about menopause?”And that was the point! But it didn’t work. What about your relationship with Katie? We were good. We were good until I dropped her name by mistake. I think that seed I dropped it first, so I kind of messed up. You can’t trust people in the game anyway. So if I drop your name, you’re not going to believe what I say after that. I wouldn’t have believed her if she would have dropped my name. I mean, for her to write my name down the first go-around, I’m like, “Well, can’t be mad at it.” Because we’re in this game, and that you can’t really trust anyone regardless. So I think Joe and I were just really on a different page, so it was easier to be like, “Okay, well, she dropped my name. She’s kind of in that group, that Victor/Wyatt clique. So they’re saying my name. So she has to go along with it anyway.” But we had our conversations and we were good. But I definitely was not on screen trying to be her friend because it was intentional for us to stay separate. We were good though. And when I dropped her name, I couldn’t even be mad at her. At that point, I knew that there was probably some friction. I tried to mitigate it later on in the term. But yeah, I messed that one up.Let’s get into what happened in “Fruitgate,” which was the start of Victor suspecting you. So, from our perspective, it looks like, after Joe fails to toss the apple to Morgan, you try to cover for him by looking for fruit, which is the crux of Victor’s theory. How did that all go down, and what was your reaction to it gaining steam? So what happened was Joe throws the apple at Morgan. It actually had a bite in it. If you slow it down, you can see there was. That’s why she was like, “Ew!” But he picks it out and he eats it. So he eats the apple, and I’m like, “You’re eating the apple?! What are we gonna do? What do you do when the apple’s ate?” So I’m freaking out, and I’m like, “Well, I’m gonna go look in the refrigerator and see if there’s more apples.” That’s why I knew how many there were, because I was like, “How many times can we mess this up?” So, I’m looking, and I’m like, “Anyone want any fruit?” That’s literally what I did. That was it. I didn’t give anyone any fruit. I didn’t do anything. From that one line, I solidified the next events that went. I did not see that coming. I want to talk about something that often gets discussed with playing the role of a Traitor: Separating emotions from the game. One great example of that is someone like Clyde, who you were clearly very close with. And even though he voted to banish you, after you left, he sat there devastated while everyone celebrated. How difficult was it for you to form these relationships with people who you knew you had to get rid of in your march to the end?So my whole intent was to be authentic and to build friendships ,because I actually am a people person. I really do enjoy people. So talking to them was genuine, and becoming their friends was genuine. And then you have to compartmentalize. It’s like “Traitor mask. Who we murdering?” You literally have got to compartmentalize. And I don’t lie a lot. I don’t go around in my life lying. So I’m usually very honest and very direct. And I don’t care how you take it; this is the truth. It was very hard to look at Clyde and lie, you know. It was hard with Niyyah. It was hard with Ben. Yeah, I’ve known you for all of two weeks, and we’ve become friends. But when you’re there, you’re sequestered. Those are the only people you’re talking to. And so, when you’re talking about private things in your life and things like that, you actually start to connect with people in a way that’s super fast because of where you are. And so, there’s that part of the game. And then the Traitor side, like, “Now I have to stab you in the back. Okay, compartmentalize that. Deal with it later. You’re in a game. It’s just a game. It’s just a game. It’s just a game. It’s just a game.” You’ve got to say it 55 times in order to make it make sense.
