Brewers pitcher Trevor Megill shared a message to Wisconsin fans after the team’s World Series win — and it had Chicagoans flocking to the comments.
Asked by MLB analyst Ben Verlander what he had to say to the excited fans cheering on top of the dugout after the Brewers became World Series champions for the first time, Megill used the moment to talk about… another city?
“Have fun talking s–t to Chicago next year. We have a ring,” Megill said.
The taunt generated a bit of an eyeroll from Chicago fans, who of course responded in kind.
“Imagine winning the World Series and your first thought is about Chicago lmao,” one fan wrote.
“Just won the world series and the cubs are still your first thought. congrats,” another commented.
“Chicago living rent free in Milwaukee still after winning,” one comment read.
The comment wasn’t entirely unexpected, given Megill made his MLB debut with the Chicago Cubs in 2021.
Still, many Cubs and Sox fans pointed out the difference in records, with both the Cubs and White Sox winning three World Series.
The Brewers’ championship comes in the 58th season for a franchise that began as the Seattle Pilots in 1969 and moved to Milwaukee the following year. The Brewers’ only previous trip to the World Series in 1982 ended in heartbreak when they blew a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning of Game 7 and lost 6-3 to the St. Louis Cardinals.
