While many little girls dream of meeting their favorite princess or TV show character, almost 4-year-old Hazel Kessler woke up Wednesday morning and asked her mom if it was finally the day she’d get to meet her favorite meteorologist, NBC Chicago’s Brant Miller.
Hours later, Hazel ran with open arms toward Miller as he stood on the stoop of her family’s Norwood Park home. But she wasn’t dressed in the typical fashion of a toddler, instead, Hazel was wearing a suit, tie, and a wig — her Halloween costume this year, mimicking Miller himself.
“Your hair looks better than mine,” Miller told Hazel while the two embraced.
Miller’s meeting with his miniature self was organized after Hazel’s mom, Gina Kessler, reached out to NBC Chicago on Tuesday offering to share pictures of her weather-obsessed daughter’s elaborate costume.
The Kessler family created a weather desk, displaying several of her favorite weather- and science-related picture books, and forecast backdrop for her costume. She even has Miller’s iconic Fungus Wednesday segment featured on the board.
Once the pictures came in, NBC Chicago producers immediately started organizing a meetup for Miller and Hazel.
“This is one of the most amazing moments of my whole broadcasting career,” Miller said as he walked up to the family’s home to meet Hazel on Wednesday. “Hazel does a perfect Brant Miller.”
Holding hands, Miller talked Hazel through the forecast for the week and the upcoming daylight-saving time change.
“Are you gonna sleep in or wake your parents up?” Miller asked his no. 1 fan. To which she replied, “I’m gonna sleep in.”
Miller also treated Hazel to her own personal Fungus Wednesday by reading her one of her picture books, titled “Humongous Fungus,” while she munched on some peanut M&M’s.
