It seems everything is not well between Jennifer Lopez and filmmaker Robert Zemeckis.
JLo and Zemeckis are reportedly at loggerheads over the edit of Netflix thriller The Last Mrs. Parrish. As per Page Six, Lopez was pushing for changes to the $100 million film following the test screenings. One source noted that the musician-turned-actor has been panicking in the editing room after terrible test screenings.
“She’s tried to take it over. She sees herself as a filmmaker. It’s been testing terrible. Lopez has been in the editing room in a panic. Behind the scenes everyone’s talking about it being a Blake Lively situation,” the source told the outlet.
Meanwhile, another source stated that Lopez is trying to “save the movie.” On the other hand, another source explained how Lopez had “taken over” the editing.
The report also mentioned that Lopez and Zemeckis had worked on the cut together last week and were due to meet again next week.
Despite these claims, all three parties (Lopez, Zemeckis, and Netflix) have denied the reports of a rift.
Netflix has responded by saying, “The film tested very well, particularly with fans of Jennifer”. Zemeckis, Lopez, and Netflix also issued a joint statement and noted, “As we have said to Page Six, this reporting is categorically false. Any suggestion that the filmmakers are not working in unison is without merit.”
Based on Liv Constantine’s 2017 bestseller, the thriller features Isabel May as the con artist targeting a wealthy couple (Lopez and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). Production started in September 2025 with a release date of 2027.
Why Blake Lively Is Part of the Comparison
The reference is to the reported creative differences surrounding It Ends With Us (the 2024 drama with Blake Lively) with Lively reportedly approving a cut that was different from that of director Justin Baldoni. The tensions were part of the wider legal battle.
Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and retaliation. Baldoni denied all the allegations and his production company in turn brought a defamation action against Lively and others which was dismissed. They settled their matter in May 2026 without going to trial and there was no payment involved.
In August the judge awarded Lively approximately $407k in legal fees and costs in relation to the defense of the defamation action brought by Baldoni (a great deal less than the $8 million that she had sought). The comparison does not mean that Lopez and Zemeckis are in the same position.
