Nicolas Roy has returned to the Avalanche lineup after missing six games due to a lower-body injury.
Without Roy, the Avs won two and lost three in regulation and one in a shootout. The 6-foot-4 forward is a crucial piece for the middle six and has also played a role on the penalty kill.

“What Nic does, when we’ve seen him at his best, he rarely throws the puck away,” head coach Jared Bednar said. He noted the similarities he shares with former Avalanche forward Valeri Nichushkin and said, “It’s something, quite frankly, that we could use in our lineup right now, so it’s nice to get him back.”
The Amos, Quebec native brings skill and grit to a struggling Avs team. His return will shift players around, which may help the flow and structure of their game.
“The energy skating with the guys yesterday (and) this morning feels good to be back and playing the game,” Roy said. “Obviously, you don’t want to be in the stands for a long time, recovering from injuries. So it was tough looking from on top, but very excited to be back.”
How Roy was looking in from the outside
While sidelined for a handful of games, Roy is ready to get back at it and help the team get back on track.
“We had some meetings. Obviously, we need more consistency. Really good game against Tampa. Last game (vs. the Nashville Predators) was tougher,” Roy said. “So we look at the video. We can do better things for a full 60 minutes. Play better defensively.”
Roy has four points in six games this season. Per practice lines from Tuesday, he is expected to slot in on the second line with Brock Nelson and Gabriel Landeskog. That will shift Nazem Kadri back to center on the third line and Fedor Svechkov down to the fourth line.
