Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Delaney Barbee from Anthem, Arizona, has made a verbal commitment to the University of Arizona for 2027-28. Earlier this year, we wrote about her commitment to Arizona State. She announced her decision on social media:
“After much thought and consideration, I’m happy to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at The University of Arizona! All glory be to God for guiding me through this journey, and the countless blessings he’s provided in my life. I would not be where I am today without the love and support from my community around me. Thank you to my parents for always being there for me, and supporting me every step of the way. Another big thank you to my past coaches, and the coaches at Scottsdale Aquatic Club for helping me to grow as a person in and out of the water. Most importantly, thank you to Coach Ben, Coach Peter, and the amazing coaching staff at U of A for believing in me and giving me this opportunity! #beardown ”
A two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Barbee swims for Boulder Creek High School and Scottsdale Aquatic Club. We considered her a “Best of the Rest” recruit on our list of top girls’ swimmers from the high school class of 2027 after their junior year.
At the 2025 AIA Division I State Championships last fall, the Boulder Creek junior placed 2nd in both the 50 free (23.30) and 100 free (51.51). The previous year, she won both events with 22.74 and 50.28, respectively, and her 22.74 set the Arizona state high school record which still stands today.
After high school season last fall, Barbee competed at Winter Juniors West, where she swam the 50/100/200 free (23.20/52.06/1:52.96). At the 2026 Arizona Swimming LSC Senior Short Course Championships, she placed 4th in the 50 free (23.64) and 50 fly (25.34), scoring a PB in the latter. She also finaled in the 100 free (7th) and 200 free (9th) and had relay splits of 22.84/51.30/1:50.94 on SAC free relays, and she led off the medley relay with a 27.32 backstroke. A month later, she put up freestyle times of 23.19/50.45/1:50.97 at Four Corners Sectionals.
Barbee will be a strong addition to the Arizona roster next fall. Her best times would have scored at the 2026 Big 12 Championships in the ‘A’ final of the 50 free and the ‘C’ final of the 100 free, and she has huge potential for the UA relays.
Best SCY times:
50 free – 22.60 100 free – 50.17 200 free – 1:50.97 50 fly – 25.34Barbee will suit up for the Wildcats in the class of 2031 with swimmers Alexandra Sartie Barrutia, Dylon Flikkema, Kendall Jollands, Kiera Menna, and Lexi Tippie, and the #2 diver, Kayla Jensen.
