CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — A Canandaigua judge accused of using the “n-word” while speaking to coworkers is being removed.
The State Court of Appeals issued the decision Tuesday.
Documents filed by the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct in March called for Walter Jones’ removal after claiming he repeatedly used the “n-word” while telling a story to coworkers in 2024.
The commission also accused Jones of making “racially insensitive comments” after the arraignment of a Black woman.
That led to the investigation, suspension, and now removal of Jones. The Court of Appeals suspended Jones without pay in April.

Jones claims he used the “n-word” while telling a story about a black man who became friends with his grandfather during the Great Depression, and he did not use the word maliciously.
