ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Medical providers and care advocates met at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry on Tuesday to talk about how to better care for patients addicted to opioids.
The symposium aimed to give healthcare providers new information about changes to Medicare and treatments. Patrick Seche, URMC’s chief administrative officer of psychiatry, said regional differences across New York State can affect how opioid use disorder is treated.
“Sometimes we’re not able to prevent it, but being able to treat it and being able to help guide people into recovery is the best thing that we can do. So really having it accessible to anyone who needs it in whatever the level of care is that they need,” Seche said.
The New York State Office of Addiction and Support Services is teaming up with COMPA to support providers. The office will keep providers updated about new laws or changes in regulations. The event focused on making sure care is available to anyone who needs it.
