Sylvester Stallone is going against the grain and defending the use of Artificial Intelligence in Hollywood.
While many actors and filmmakers are blasting AI, the Rocky star is embracing the new technology, and warning those who are resisting the new technology.
“If you don’t go with it, you will be trampled by it,” he said on “The Overlap” podcast.
Stallone is executive producing a new John Rambo film to be released in 2027, and he said he was denied by producers when he proposed using AI to portray himself younger for the new project.
“I get in trouble for this [but] AI is here to stay,” he said. “I wanted to do half-human, half-AI and put it together, and of course everyone’s going nuts. I go, ‘That’s happening, guys. People are selling their images. There’s going to be 20 Elvis avatars … This is happening.’”
After his AI idea was rejected, he cast 30-year-old Noah Centineo, who starred in the Netflix spy adventure series, The Recruit, to play the lead role. John Rambo follows a young Rambo serving as a Green Beret during the Vietnam War.
Stallone will also see a younger actor portray him in the biographical film I Play Rocky. It tells the true story of how he overcame massive obstacles to create his 1976 classic Rocky. Initially, studios refused to allow him to star in the film. He proved his doubters wrong, as Rocky became one of the most successful greatest films franchises, spawning six films, and three Creed spinoffs starring Michael B. Jordan. I Play Rocky featuring 27-year-old Anthony Ippolito opens in theaters on November 20.
After over 50 years as a professional actor, Stallone, now 80, is not slowing down. He continues to star in the Paramount+ series Tulsa King as Dwight “The General” Manfredi. He is also executive producing a spinoff, Frisco King, starring Samuel L. Jackson. Stallone also appears as Manfredi in the new show which debuts December 18, also on Paramount+.
