Happy game day, Bears fans! I hope all your affairs are in order and your schedule is clear for Thursday Night Football. If they aren’t, I hope you have time to right the ship.
If you want to watch TNF in Chicago but don’t have Prime Video, you need not worry because I’ve got you covered. The game will broadcast over-the-air on FOX-32. As this Sun-Times story details, the NFL has a policy that requires games on cable (like ESPN’s Monday Night Football) or streaming (TNF, Netflix’s Christmas special) to be broadcast in local markets. If you’ll recall, that’s why the Bears-Packers playoff game in January was broadcast locally on FOX-32. So if you don’t have Prime Video, don’t fret. You don’t need it to watch this game in Chicago or its local market. Check your local listings.CHECK OUT THE BN BEARS PODCAST: Apple | Spotify | YouTube
One week after coughing up 31 points against the Packers, the Bears defense turned it around against the Falcons. That unit still gave up 23 points, but the optics were infinitely better against Atlanta than in Green Bay. As it stands, Chicago’s defense ranks 6th in points, 7th in total yards, 8th in rushing yards allowed, 10th in takeaways, 14th in passing yards allowed, 15th in sacks, and 2nd in third-down conversions allowed. That the Bears rank in the top half of the league in this many categories is encouraging, to say the least. So … what’s the secret? Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson had an explanation during this week’s media availability (which you can watch here):“You see them playing faster. You see us tighter in coverage on the back end. And then, certainly, I think there’s less space for the quarterback to step up into or evade and get out of the pocket because of that.”
Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen deserves a ton of credit for the turnaround (duh), but I also want to spotlight Defensive Line Coach Jeremy Garnett. During the offseason, he laid out what the defense needed to be better at in 2026. His words came on the heels of Allen telling reporters that he and his staffers needed to coach better. It was a head-scratcher at the time, but now we see the vision as the games have played out. This group is still very much a work in progress, but they’re trending in the right direction. Mandatory Credit: Dale Zanine-Imagn Images Brad Biggs (Tribune) nails it in this column, highlighting that a Caleb Williams-Drake Maye rivalry would elevate the 2024 NFL Draft class of quarterbacks. That said, I’ll take it a step further. A legitimate Williams-Maye rivalry would elevate the NFL as a whole. Not that the league needs a boost, mind you. But it could use a new QB duel like what we used to see with Jay Cutler and Philip Rivers or Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. Don’t get me wrong. It’s cool to see Patrick Mahomes-Lamar Jackson or Mahomes-Josh Allen. But it would be wayyy cooler if a Bears quarterback were involved. If Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson wants to play the underdog card, he can use Pete Prisco’s prediction at CBS Sports to his advantage. I wonder how much more of Ozzy Trapilo we’ll see this week. Trapilo played 17 snaps in his return to the lineup in Week 6. Had it not been for Jonah Jackson’s seemingly miraculous recovery on the injury report, I was thinking about the possibility of sliding Theo Benedet into the right guard spot and give Trapilo more of a runway at left tacle. But with Jackson being good to go, the Bears can continue easing Trapilo back into the rotation. Defensive lineman Shemar turner tallied a tackle in his seven snaps played in his 2026 debut. When it comes to Chicago’s defensive line, it’s an all-hands-on-deck experience. I love a playlist share on game day:As part of his Madden 27 cover, #Bears Caleb Williams has curated a special playlist for the game. The Madden NFL 27 Iceman Edition Playlist is officially out now. The playlist was curated by Williams and brings together Madden soundtrack favorites, game-day classics, and his personal go-to tracks. You can give the playlist a listen on Apple Music: t.co/7f19nrllwn
