More Mike Ditka tributes are on the way.
The Chicago Bears are set to host the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football. Not only is this a marquee matchup between two of the league’s best and most popular teams that has the secondary ticket market doing insane things hours before kickoff, but it is also the Bears’ first home game at Soldier Field since Ditka died.
As you might expect, the Bears have lined up quite the game-day experience to honor the fan-favorite Pro Football Hall of Famer and Super Bowl-winning head coach.
“Tonight’s game will feature a special tribute to Ditka,” the team shared in a social media post on Twitter/X. “with commemorative gameday elements including a stadium-wide mustache giveaway, fan activations, on-field recognition and moments honoring the legendary coach.”
In addition to the countless tributes that have been shared in print, online, over-the-air, and elsewhere, the Bears have also rolled out a jersey patch that they’ll wear on their uniforms for the rest of the year. We saw their debut in Week 6 when the Bears beat the Falcons.
They’ve also shared this video, which is a nice touch:
More from Patrick K. Flowers in his Bears Bits:
If you’re heading to the game tomorrow, and you’re one of the first 10,000 into the stadium, you’ll receive a free Mike Ditka fake mustache and headbands inspired by his iconic sweater vest to don during the game. So, get those sweater vests and aviator shades ready. The Bears are planning multiple things to honor the late Mike Ditka during tomorrow’s contest, including the mustaches, the jersey patches we saw added to the uniforms last week, a stencil on the Soldier Field turf, and a video tribute.
I wish this could have been a stadium-wide giveaway. Still, kudos to the Bears for getting 10,000 giveaways on relatively short notice. Well done.

Mandatory Credit: Malcolm Emmons-USA TODAY SportsI’ve been truly impressed with the Ditka tributes that have dropped since his passing. Ditka left a complicated legacy that is impossible to capture in a social media post. But his impact on the Bears and the NFL is undeniable. Ultimately, I feel as if the best way to honor him would be for Chicago’s football team to beat the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football. Bonus points if it’s by a 46-10 score.
