Patriots vs Bears Odds: Spread, Total, and Predictions for Thursday Night Football ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Two 4-2 teams, a short week, and a field goal on the spread. The Patriots vs Bears odds have the Bears as a 3-point home favorite tonight at Soldier Field, with the total sitting at 50.5. Kickoff is 8:15 p.m. ET, and the game streams on Prime Video.

Both teams won last week. Chicago got Caleb Williams back and beat Atlanta 31-23. New England beat the Jets 26-19 for its third straight win. Now one of them leaves Thursday night at 5-2, and the injury report gives you a pretty good idea of which side the market thinks that is.

Patriots vs Bears Odds for Thursday Night Football

Here is where the major books are hanging this game on Thursday morning. Prices move, so check a couple of apps before you bet.

Spread: Bears -3, Patriots +3 at most books. BetMGM is still dealing Chicago -2.5, but it is charging -135 for that half point. Moneyline: Bears between -155 and -160, Patriots between +130 and +132 at the big retail books. Total: 50.5 at most books. BetMGM has 50. Team totals: Bears 26.5, Patriots 23.5.

Earlier in the week a few previews had Chicago at -2.5 and the total at 49.5. Both numbers have crept up since. The money has come in on Chicago, and the total going up a point tells you the market respects both offenses more than the two defenses.

That -3 matters. Three is the most common final margin in the NFL, so the difference between -2.5 and -3 is not small. If you like Chicago, a -2.5 at a fair price is worth hunting. If you like New England, +3 is the number you want to hold, and you should not settle for +2.5.

The Injury Report Is the Story

New England is beat up on both lines of scrimmage you care about most for this game, and on a short week there is no time to patch it.

Both starting guards are out. Alijah Vera-Tucker has a hamstring injury and Ben Brown has a knee injury, and neither practiced this week. Walter Rouse and Matt Pryor are the expected fill-ins, and both played against the Jets. Right tackle Morgan Moses is questionable with a foot injury after being limited all week. If Moses sits too, that is three new faces in front of Drake Maye against a Chicago defense that just sacked Atlanta five times.

The secondary is in rough shape as well. Cornerbacks Carlton Davis III, Karon Prunty, and Channing Canada are all out. Safeties Kevin Byard and Craig Woodson are questionable, along with linebacker Christian Elliss. Christian Gonzalez is still there on one side, but the other outside corner spot is going deep down the depth chart.

Receiver Romeo Doubs is on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, which leaves A.J. Brown, DeMario Douglas, and tight end Hunter Henry as the main targets.

Chicago’s list is shorter. Running back Kyle Monangai is out for a third straight game, so D’Andre Swift carries the backfield. Linebacker Jack Sanborn is out with a concussion, T.J. Edwards is doubtful with a hamstring, and cornerback Tyrique Stevenson is questionable after practicing in full all week. Guard Jonah Jackson practiced fully and should play.

Put that all together and it is easy to see why the line moved toward Chicago.

Bears vs Patriots Spread Prediction

I lean Bears -3, and I would feel better about it at -2.5 if you can find a price you like.

Williams looked sharp in his return. He went 30-of-36 for 305 yards and a touchdown in Atlanta, and the Bears have now had a full week of practice with him back under center, short as that week is. Chicago averages about 25 points per game. Its defense has been among the better units in the league by EPA per play, and Kyler Gordon just posted three sacks and two forced fumbles in his first game back from the PUP list.

New England is the more interesting case. Maye has been playing at a high level during this three-game win streak, with 878 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and one interception in that stretch. Nobody should fade him lightly. But turnovers have been an issue for him at times this year, and asking him to do it behind two backup guards and maybe a backup right tackle, against a pass rush that is getting home, on a short week, on the road, is a lot.

Does that mean the Patriots cannot win? No. The moneyline puts New England’s chances at roughly 40 percent, and that feels about right. It just means the injuries push this one toward the home team.

Patriots vs Bears Total: Over or Under 50.5?

The total is a tougher call than the side.

The under has been the better bet for both teams. It is 4-2 in Patriots games and 4-2 in Bears games this season. Chicago’s pass rush against a patched-up New England line points toward stalled drives. Several previews lean under for exactly that reason.

The other side of it? Williams’ starts have been a different story. Chicago put up 59 on Carolina in Week 1 and 31 on Atlanta last week, and New England has three injured corners. That is a real problem for a defense trying to slow a quarterback who just completed 83 percent of his passes.

The market has already moved this from 49.5 to 50.5, so some of the over case is priced in. I would pass on the full-game total or take a small under, and I would rather play the Bears team total over 26.5 than the game total over. That isolates the matchup I trust most, the Chicago offense against a banged-up New England secondary.

Player Props Worth a Look

Thursday night means a full menu of props. A few stand out.

D’Andre Swift anytime touchdown: priced around -155 to -160. With Monangai out, Swift should get the goal-line work. He is the clear favorite in the touchdown market, with first touchdown prices near +400. D’Andre Swift receiving: he caught 8 of 10 targets for 56 yards over the last two games, and New England has given up the fifth-most receiving yards to running backs. Caleb Williams rushing yards: 19.5. He ran for 107 combined yards in Weeks 1 and 2 but only 3 in his first game back from the hamstring. I would stay away from this one until he shows he is running again. A.J. Brown receiving yards: around 70.5 to 71.5. Brown caught just 3 of 10 targets for 27 yards against the Jets, with a few drops, in his first game back from an ankle injury. The volume was there. The catches were not.

Brown is the prop I keep coming back to. Ten targets in his first game back is a real role, and Chicago’s secondary is the healthier of the two but not airtight. If you believe the drops were rust, the over is live. If you think he is still not right physically, stay away, because 70 yards is not a low bar.

Best Bets for Patriots vs Bears

You do not need to bet every market. Here is how I would keep it simple.

Bears -3, or -2.5 if the juice is reasonable where you play. Bears team total over 26.5 instead of the full-game over. D’Andre Swift in the touchdown market, knowing the price is short.

Keep an eye on the Morgan Moses news before kickoff. If New England’s right tackle is out too, the case for Chicago gets stronger, and the number could tick toward -3.5 at some books.

Responsible Gambling

A Thursday night game with the Bears on the field is a fun one to have a bet on. Keep it that way. Pick a budget before you open an app, and do not move it once the game starts.

A good habit is to set a unit size you are fine losing and keep every bet close to it. Do not chase a bad first half with a bigger live bet. Most apps let you set deposit limits, time limits, and cooling-off periods, and using them is just smart bankroll management.

Only bet money you can afford to lose. If betting stops feeling like entertainment, step away and take a break.
