Three Bears: Week 7’s Picks to Click ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

After Caleb Williams’ return and a win in Atlanta, the Bears are back home at Soldier Field to take on the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football. It’s a battle of 2024 first-rounders in Williams and Drake Maye before the Bears head to Seattle next week to take on the Seahawks.

Here are the potential difference-makers in Thursday’s Week 7 contest between the Bears and Patriots.

Three Bears: Week 7’s Picks to Click

Patrick Flowers: Caleb Williams — The last time these two teams met in 2024, Shane Waldron, the Bears’ offensive coordinator at the time, did everything in his power to derail Williams’ rookie season. I’m sure that wasn’t Waldron’s intent, but his offense was so bad that Williams was sacked nine times in a miserable 19-3 loss to New England. It was so bad that Waldron was fired two days later. That game was Chicago’s third straight loss, and the offense scored just 27 points and failed to score a touchdown on 23 straight possessions.

All that is in the rearview mirror now. Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson is the architect of the offense, Williams is executing it at a level as high as ever, and Chicago is looking to move to 5-2. With Kyle Monangai still sidelined with a turf toe injury and D’Andre Swift clearly banged up and on a limited snap count, much of the offense’s production will again have to come from Williams. He answered the call in Atlanta, throwing for 300 yards and completing 83 percent of his passes to earn NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Against New England, he may have to have an even better game than he did on Sunday.

Matt Rooney: Defensive Line — The Patriots will be without their two starting guards, and their two starting tackles were on the injury report all week. To say their offensive line is a bit banged up would be an understatement.

The Bears’ defensive line had a really solid showing in Atlanta. They did a great job containing Bijan Robinson and getting after Michael Penix Jr., too. The defense as a whole has been much better at home in Dennis Allen’s time here, and Thursday Night Football will be another chance for them to shine at Soldier Field.

If the Bears defensive line comes out firing, it could be a long day for New England’s offense. Limiting the run game and pressuring Drake Maye will be key. If they can’t do that, especially early, it could be trouble. They can’t let a banged-up offensive line gain confidence, and they can’t let Drake Maye get comfortable. Hopefully, the defensive line looks good early and often tonight.

Luis C. Medina: Garrett Bradbury — No one loves a revenge game angle more than I do, so you know I just had to pick Bradbury here.

It has been an uneven start to the season for the Bears’ center. In his best moments, you realize why Chicago’s front office targeted him in the first place. A veteran with the knowledge and ability to wield it to gain leverage in the trenches, Bradbury has posted the eighth-best pass-block win rate among interior offensive linemen, according to ESPN data. But in his worst moments, you’re waiting for a push notification to hit your phone that says rookie Logan Jones has replaced Bradbury at center.

Bradbury was the Patriots’ starting center in 2025, but was traded to the Bears in the offseason after Drew Dalman’s surprising retirement after a Pro Bowl season. With Jared Wilson waiting in the wings, the Pats shipped Bradbury to Chicago. Wilson is Pro Football Focus’ 10th-highest-graded center through Week 6 of the 2026 NFL season, so I’d say that trade went well for New England. That said, I’d bet that Bradbury wants to stick it to his former team. Hopefully, it goes better than the last time he played his (other) former team.
