No One Mind (Ellis Anderson) stopped by Live & Local this week, following the release of his third album, “Soft Work/Hard Dreams.”

“That title (is) a little bit of a play on words,” Anderson says of the album, a stellar collection of 14 mostly-solo tracks recorded with support from artists including Chelsey Kalnen (Case Sensitive), Rex McMurry (Nathan Bowles Trio) and Saman Khoujinian (T. Gold). “A lot of the songs do feature references to work, (and) that’s paired with the element of dreams – literal dreams, going to sleep, the psychedelic visions that appear, but (also) aspirations, wanting your creativity, your sound to reach more people and have a greater impact.”
Ellis Anderson has been building that impact over the last decade-plus, developing a lush, psychedelic art-pop sound – a sound he’s able to produce, remarkably, from his own home studio.
“Over the years I’ve developed a sense of what I like to hear from myself: lots of compression, some harmonic distortion, and plenty of delay and reverb,” he says with a laugh. “I’ve got a good setup, I feel like I’ve dialed in at this point…This record is the first one that (I’ve) exclusively done at home.”

Now that the album is out, No One Mind is celebrating with a record-release show at Cat’s Cradle Back Room Friday, October 16, starting at 8 p.m. with Slow Teeth and Mind Over Mirrors opening.
