Other fans agreed that the Dancing With the Stars judges are being particularly harsh this season.
Arnold’s Super Bowl Night samba with Wood was criticized by Tonioli, who noted that Wood’s flowy, fringed pants hid “a multitude of sins” during the performance. Amid audience boos, Inaba agreed the dance wasn’t the duo’s “best” effort, and Hough advised the two to keep working.
Wood and Arnold scored three sixes for their samba and a gift of a seven from guest judge Joe Buck, landing barely above low scorers Guillermo Rodriguez and Witney Carson on the judges’ leaderboard.
Arnold’s boyfriend, Walker Lyons, posted online to call the scoring “robbery” and to call out the judges for being unnecessarily harsh toward his girlfriend.
But Wood and Arnold appeared to take the judges’ critiques in stride.
“As much as I feel like sometimes the critique could be a little overkill, I think the boos are a little overkill as well,” Wood told Us Weekly after the show. “They’re doing their job. …I like the feedback. It helps me [going] into the next week. So everyone, do your job … and be kind.”
