Chicago Bears-themed Hallmark movie ‘Holiday Touchdown' premieres this weekend ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

The highly anticipated Hallmark film “Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story” premieres Saturday — which just happens to be the first frost of the season.

The film, which features cameos from a number of current members of the team, including Colston Loveland, Cole Kmet and Ben Johnson, was filmed over the summer across the city. Because the movie takes place during Christmas time, fake snow was created, and the city’s iconic Christkindlmarket was even set up.

Earlier this week, Chicago saw a red carpet premiere of the movie with a number of the film’s stars, including Caleb Williams.

“We used new, state of the art visual effects to make it full, full winter,” the film’s director Dustin Rikert said, as the movie filmed in the hot, humid days of July. “Slush snow. It’s going to feel very cold, very Christmas, very Chicago.”

NBC Chicago film critic Richard Roeper got a sneak peak of the film, which he described as a “handsomely photographed and well-staged production, spotlighting the city in all its December glory.”

Who is in the movie?

The cast features a roster of popular stars, including Lyndsy Fonseca from “How I Met Your Mother,” Robert Buckley from “One Tree Hill,” four-time Academy-Award nominee Marsha Mason from “Grace and Frankie,” Barbara Alyn Woods from “One Tree Hill,” and Khary Payton from “The Walking Dead.”

Other notable names making appearances in the film are Tamera Mowry-Housley and Marilu Henner, and Chicago-area locals like “Stranger Things” favorite Jake Connelly and Dyon “Mojo” Brooks.

Among the current Bears members making cameos in the film are Colston Loveland, Cole Kmet and Ben Johnson. Other notable names on the cast are Bears legends Charles “Peanut” Tillman, Mike Singletary and Dan Hampton, along with Connie Payton, the wife of the late Walter Payton, and Staley.

Asked about his acting experience during a press conference when the film was announced, Johnson joked about never acting before.

“Cole Kmet and I took a lot of acting classes this offseason so we were ready for this,” he said. “[Loveland] did not need them … it was natural.”

Hallmark announced the film in June, saying the Bears “have been drafted” for this year’s NFL-themed holiday movie. Titled “Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story,” it will mark the third movie in the sports-themed franchise.

“After the tremendous success of our first two Holiday Touchdown movies, we knew we wanted to continue the tradition by partnering with another iconic NFL franchise and fan base. The Chicago Bears have a rich history, passionate supporters, and a culture that extends far beyond the football field, making them a perfect fit for a heartwarming holiday story,” Darren Abbott, president and chief brand officer for Hallmark Media, said in a statement. “We can’t wait for audiences to experience this story and celebrate the passion and spirit that bring Bears fans together.”

Previous movies in the NFL-themed Hallmark holiday lineup have included The Chiefs and The Bills.

The film premieres on the Hallmark channel at 7 p.m,. on Saturday Oct. 17 and will be available to stream the next day on Hallmark Plus.
