Does Amazon owe you a refund for a return? You could get a piece of a $309M settlement ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

If you returned an item to Amazon over the last several years but never received a full refund, you could be eligible for a payment as part of a proposed $309.5 million class-action settlement with the online retailer.

The lawsuit claims Amazon’s return policies and practices violated consumer protection and other laws in the state of Washington, where the company is based. It alleges some customers did not receive full refunds, received their refunds late or in the wrong amount, or were charged again after returning an item.

Amazon denied wrongdoing in the case. The settlement has received preliminary court approval, but a final approval hearing is scheduled for March 16, 2027

Here’s how to know if you’re eligible to file a claim, the deadline to file and more.

Who is eligible to file a claim in the Amazon return settlement?

Anyone in the US who initiated or requested an Amazon return for certain physical products sold on Amazon.com between Sept. 5, 2017 and Feb. 12, 2026 may be eligible for a payment if they:

Did not receive a refund Received a refund late Received an incorrect refund amount Received a refund but were later incorrectly charged again for the returned item

How to file a claim

The settlement divides eligible customers into two groups.

One group of eligible class members, named “Settlement Subclass A,” will automatically receive payments and do not need to file a claim, the settlement website said. Payments are expected to go out 105 days after the court grants final settlement approval, with a final hearing set for March 16, 2027.

About 93% of the settlement fund will go towards automatic payments for members in Subclass A. The rest of the money will be divided among “Settlement Subclass B,” or members who submit claims.

According to the site, people can submit claims showing “more likely than not” that they are entitled to a payment. Claims can be submitted here.

The deadline to submit a claim to be part of Subclass B is Dec. 1, 2026.

How much could you get?

If and when the settlement is approved approved, money from the $309.5 million fund will be divided and distributed among class members. Payments will cover the initial refund amount and may also include interest.

After payments are made to those in Subclass A, leftover funds will be distributed and divided among those in Subclass B who submitted eligible claims.

“The Settlement approval process may take time and there may be appeals that must be resolved before any Settlement Class Member payments can be issued,” the site said. “Please be patient and check this website for updates.”
