Pearl Jam Guitarist Jokes Band Is Too ‘Cheap’ for Sphere, Where U2, Metallica and Eagles Have Played ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

Pearl Jam fans may have to wait a while to see the band perform at Las Vegas Sphere—if ever.

During an Oct. 8 appearance on “Watch What Happens Live,”  Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready was asked by host Andy Cohen if there was “any chance” of the legendary band ever playing at the Sphere.

“I’m for it,” McCready, 60, replied. “I’m not sure if everyone in my band is. But I did see U2 there.”

When Cohen asked why some of the band members wouldn’t be into the idea, McCready cracked, “Because we’re kind of cheap.”

Cohen agreed that bands have to spend a lot of money on the graphics for the immersive shows.

“You have to start out a lot,” McCready said.

Cohen then pointed out that his friend John Mayer added 12 shows to his upcoming “Meet Me Where the Light Is” residency at Sphere because his first lineup of shows sold out so quickly.

“You guys could be there infinitely,” he told the Pearl Jam veteran.

“I’m good with Vegas for two days,” McCready admitted.

Since opening its doors in September 2023, Las Vegas Sphere has hosted residencies for big-name rock bands such as U2, Eagles and Metallica. And while it’s an opportunity to bands to make a lot of money, production costs are steep for full concert visual packages, with custom graphics costing millions, according to All About the Sphere.

Pearl Jam’s last tour was the Dark Matter World Tour, which wrapped in May 2025. The band recently played two shows at frontman Eddie Vedder’s Ohana Festival in Dana Point, Calif., in late September, per Loudwire.

And while they may not be booking Sphere in the near future, plans for new music are underway. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, bass player Jeff Ament said the band would like to release a new album and go on tour in 2027.

“I mean, I would love that,” the Pearl Jam bassist said. “We’re due. We have some new energy and we have an opportunity to use that energy to the fullest and turn it into something different and something great.”
