For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Owen Miklos from Richmond, Virginia, has made a verbal commitment to the University of Alabama for 2028-29. He told SwimSwam:
“I chose the University of Alabama because of the amazing coaches and swimmers.”
Miklos is a junior at Deep Run High School. He swims year-round with NOVA of Virginia Aquatics and specializes in distance freestyle. We ranked him #15 on our Way Too Early list of top swimmers in the boys’ high school class of 2028.
Miklos is coming off a successful long-course season, culminating in lifetime bests in the 50 free (24.09), 200 free (1:53.11), 400 free (4:01.97), 800 free (8:16.46), and 1500 free (15:43.67) at U.S. Junior Nationals. His highest finish was 7th place in the 1500. A week earlier, he swam the 50/100/200 fly at U.S. Nationals, earning PBs in the 50 (25.12), 100 (55.10), and 200 (1:59.30) and placing 22nd in the 200.
In high school swimming, Miklos came in 2nd in the 500 free (4:29.56) and 6th in the 100 fly (50.71) at the 2026 VHSL Class 5 State Championships as a sophomore. He anchored the runner-up 200 free relay in 20.86 and led off the 3rd-place 200 medley relay in 23.73.
In early March, he competed at the Virginia Swimming LSC Senior Championships, where he improved his times in the 100 free (46.72), 1650 free (15:17.56), and 400 IM (4:01.21). Two weeks later, he was at NCSA Spring Championships. There, he finished 5th in the 500 free, 3rd in the 1000 free, and 4th in the mile. He clocked lifetime bests in the 200 free (1:39.40), 500 free (4:25.13), 1000 free (8:57.86), 1650 free (15:10.40), 100 back (49.63), 50 fly (22.53), 100 fly (48.78), and 200 fly (1:47.99).
Miklos is the first verbal commitment to the Alabama class of 2032. His mile time would have scored 21st at the 2026 SEC Championships. It took 4:20.84 in the 500 free and 1:44.80 in the 200 fly to get second swims at last year’s conference meet.
Best SCY times:
