The performances have once again brought the future of the two senior batters into focus. However, India captain Shubman Gill made it clear that the team's focus remains on the performances of the two veterans rather than the outside discussion surrounding their ODI futures.
Virat Kohli began the series in excellent fashion, scoring an unbeaten 139 in the first ODI at Thiruvananthapuram. He followed it with 29 in the second ODI in Guwahati before being dismissed for a first-ball duck in the series finale.
The two batters therefore finished the series with contrasting but highly productive numbers. Rohit accumulated 225 runs across three innings, while Kohli finished with 168 runs.

Shubman Gill also highlighted Rohit Sharma's recent run of scores and praised Virat Kohli's contribution, while acknowledging the performances of KL Rahul whenever he has been given an opportunity.
I honestly think there is not that much time to experiment, you know - Shubman Gill
India's next ODI assignment will come against New Zealand, with the team having roughly a month before that series begins. With the 2027 ODI World Cup approaching, there has been speculation about whether India could use some of the upcoming matches to experiment with younger players or give Kohli and Rohit occasional breaks.
"I honestly think there is not that much time to experiment, you know. The combination that we want to play, hopefully, you know, we get all the players that are available from the next series, and the combination that we would like to play in the World Cup, we, you want to start playing with that combination," said the India skipper.
