If it feels like your grocery bill has started auditioning for the role of your second mortgage, you’re not alone. Lately it feels like a quick trip for milk, eggs and a few things for dinner can turn into a receipt long enough to double as a scarf. And don’t even get us started on the total when you’re shopping for a family.
The frustrating part is that groceries aren’t exactly optional. We all have to eat, which means there’s only so much belt-tightening you can do before you’re staring at your cart wondering how a few bags of food got that expensive. So, naturally, we’ve all become a little more strategic about where we shop, what makes it into the cart and whether we really need that $7 bag of snacks.

That’s why any opportunity to save a little at the grocery store feels worth paying attention to right now. Even a few dollars here and there can make a difference when you’re buying food week after week. Aldi just announced it’s giving shoppers a little help in the savings department by lowering prices on some of its groceries through Nov. 3.
In fact, nearly one-third of the products it carries every day now cost less than they did a year ago and the savings are expected to add up to about $86 million for shoppers. The reductions cover plenty of fall grocery staples, including seasonal produce, organic picks and lean proteins. And a couple of familiar favorites are getting especially noticeable price drops: Kirkwood chicken breast family packs and Honeycrisp apples are now selling for $1.99 a pound—some of their lowest prices in years.

Why Is Aldi Lowering Prices Now?
Given that the grocery chain is known for its more inclusive pricing, it’s both exciting and surprising that Aldi has found a way to cut prices even further.
“At Aldi, value is a year-round promise, not a promotion,” said Scott Patton, Aldi’s chief commercial officer, in a statement. “Customers trust us to help them make the most of their grocery budget, and we never stop looking for ways to run our business more efficiently so we can pass along savings.”
Aside from price drops on the aforementioned Kirkwood chicken breast and Honeycrisp apples, you’ll also see Autumncrisp grapes, Bartlett pears, Brussels sprouts, butternut and spaghetti squash, fresh herbs, garlic and French beans ring up significantly less at checkout. It’s so nice to see fresh foods get a price reduction instead of simply shelf-stable pantry staples.
