More than 80 years after “It Hurts Me Too” was first recorded, Foghat is bringing the blues classic back into the spotlight.
The iconic band behind Billboard hits “Slow Ride,” “Fool for the City,” and “I Just Wanna Make Love to You” just released a new music video for their cover of “It Hurts Me Too,” which is also the second single from their upcoming live album, Live & Loud Across the U.S.A. With lead vocalist and guitarist Scott Holt taking center stage, the visual is a soul-stirring take on the bluesy classic.
Due Oct. 30, 2026, on Foghat Records, the album is distributed by Select-O-Hits, and the new video features a performance recorded live in 2024 in Tracy, California.

Foghat’s version connects directly to the blues foundation the band developed after Roger Earl and “Lonesome” Dave Peverett left Savoy Brown in 1971.
Holt also has a personal connection to the song, sharing that he first learned “It Hurts Me Too” from Junior Wells during his long stint as guitarist with Buddy Guy. According to the guitarist, Guy took him under his wing when he was young, with Holt spending more than a decade touring and recording with the blues legend.
During that period, Holt also played alongside major blues/rock figures including Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, David Bowie, and Double Trouble. He also played on Guy’s Grammy-winning Slippin’ In.
“Buddy taught me that the blues has to be honest,” Holt said, per Blabbermouth. “You can learn the notes, but if you don’t mean them, the audience knows.”
He added, “‘It Hurts Me Too’ leaves you nowhere to hide. You have to step inside that story and tell the truth.”
According to Roger Earl, the song was perfect for Holt.
“This is the kind of song Scott was born to sing,” he said. “He doesn’t just play the blues; he understands where it comes from and what it is supposed to feel like.”
He added, “Every night we play this song, he takes us somewhere different. I’m sitting behind him listening, and I still get chills.”
Holt didn’t suddenly appear in Foghat when he became lead singer. His relationship with the band actually dates back to 2014. Earl, guitarist Bryan Bassett, and the late Craig MacGregor met Holt and invited him to Boogie Motel South to help write songs for Under the Influence. They reportedly wrote about 17 songs together.
Holt eventually became Foghat’s lead singer and guitarist after longtime vocalist Charlie Huhn retired in 2022.
Live & Loud Across The U.S.A. is Foghat’s first live album featuring the current lineup. A triple-vinyl set, it includes two gold vinyl discs with the live album and a third red vinyl disc with Shaken & Stirred by Earl & the Agitators, with a double-CD edition also planned.
