Winter Juniors qualifier Karina Miller has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Pittsburgh for the fall of 2027. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Pittsburgh! I’d like to thank my family, friends, teammates and all of my coaches, especially Coach Barber, Coach Todd, and Coach Schweer for their endless support and guidance throughout this process. Additionally I’d like to thank Coach Ian, Coach Austin, and the rest of the Pitt coaching staff for this incredible opportunity. I couldn’t be more exited for the next chapter! Go Panthers!! #h2p
A senior at Hinsdale Central High School in Hinsdale, Illinois, Miller has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming team since her freshman year. She also trains year-round with FMC Aquatic Club, where she primarily specializes in sprint freestyle and backstroke.
At the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Championships in November, Miller helped Hinsdale Central finish runner-up in the 200 free relay (50.96 anchor), fourth in the 400 free relay (23.63 anchor), and 11th in the 200 medley relay (25.94 leadoff). She also placed fifth in the individual 100 back (55.40), a season best by just over a tenth.
Miller’s career bests in both backstroke events are under the Winter Junior Championships qualifying standards. She debuted at Winter Juniors – West in December, where she touched 45th in the 200 back in a season-best 2:00.91 and 62nd in the 100 back (56.25).
The majority of Miller’s lifetime bests date back to the 2023-24 season, prior to entering the high school scene. She clocked 2:00.08 in the 200 back at the IN BBSC Circle City Classic in January 2023, 24.02 in the 50 free at the Illinois Senior Championships in March 2023, 51.91 in the 100 free at the IHSA Girls State Championships in November 2023, and 1:52.57 in the 200 free at the NCSA Spring Championships in March 2024. She swam season bests of 2:00.91, 24.38, 52.22, and 1:54.10 in 2025-26.

Miller’s current PBs fall short of the cutoffs needed to earn a second swim at the meet, with times of 22.56/48.91/1:46.88 needed in the 50/100/200 free and 52.61/1:55.26 needed in the 100/200 back, though she still has two full seasons of training to go before lining up at her first conference meet.
Miller joins distance freestyler Olivia George and breaststroker/IMer Aubrey Buchanan in committing to Pitt’s class of 2031 so far.
