HENRIETTA, N.Y. — Make-A-Wish teamed up with Rochester Institute of Technology’s Magic Spell Studios to grant 19-year-old Caleb Bixley’s wish to create a video game.
News10NBC’s Declan Stablow was at RIT as Bixley’s friends and family gathered to play his game, “The Maw.” Bixley lives with a nervous system disorder, and Make-A-Wish says it took months of work to make his wish come true.
Bixley was able to work side by side with RIT developers who have experience building games like his. Make-A-Wish says RIT’s resources made it happen.
Bixley has a passion for engineering and game design. He says it was exciting to see others play his game.
“It’s a simple idea. Made a little complicated. We made many levels, and you run through like 10 of them randomized, and then you defeat the boss at the end. Who’s the endless man? That’s — he’s like the main villain,” Bixley said.
Bixley says he’s excited to see more people play. The game will be available for people to play at the Rochester Game Festival at RIT on Saturday, Sept. 26.
One of the game developers with RIT says this is the first time he’s teamed up with Make-A-Wish for something like this and hopes it’s not the last.
