Jacob Kaleem has announced he will transfer from Division III Penn State Altoona to Division I American for the upcoming 2026-2027 season. He spent one year at Penn State Altoona as a redshirt.
Originally from Washington DC, Kaleem will return closer to home with his transfer. He also is a member of the Ghana National Team and swims for Machine Aquatics out of Arlington, Virginia.
“After battling multiple injuries and setbacks that at times made my future in the sport uncertain, I’ll now continue representing Ghana internationally while competing at the NCAA Division I level.
What makes this transfer especially meaningful is that it brings me back to my hometown. I’m a Washington, D.C., native who grew up training in this area, and I’ve always felt I was meant to represent my hometown. Now I’ll have the opportunity to compete collegiately in the city that shaped me while wearing the Ghanaian flag on the international stage.
My journey hasn’t been straightforward. Through injuries, adversity, and periods of uncertainty, I stayed committed to the sport and worked toward earning another opportunity. This next chapter represents a full-circle moment—returning home while continuing my international career with Ghana.”
He most recently competed at the African Zone 2 Championship where he swam lifetime bests in the LCM 50 free (25.61) and 50 breast (33.33).
Kaleem’s Best SCY Times Are:
50 free: 22.52 100 free: 50.27 50 breast: 29.43The American men finished 10th out of 10 teams at the 2026 Patriot League Championships with 230 points. Diver Alexander Way led the way with 24 individual points while swimmer Luke Martens was 2nd on the team with 14 individual points.
The team did not have any finalists in the 50 free at the conference level as Charlie St. Louis was the team’s highest finisher with a 21.03 for 30th. It took a 20.91 to final in the event. Gavin Shifflett was the highest finisher for American in the 100 free with a 46.30 for 35th.
Kaleem will arrive this fall along with the freshmen class including Sam Cave, Ethan Hodson, Garrett Peters, Brady Kam, and Cash Vinas.
