RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s non-oil and government activities in each grew by 0.9 percent year-on-year in Q2 of 2026, while several economic activities recorded stronger growth, according to estimates by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT). Community, social and personal services recorded the highest annual growth rate at 4.1 percent, followed by finance, insurance and business services at 3.3 percent and agriculture, forestry and fishing at 2.6 percent. On a quarterly basis, the three activities grew by 0.6 percent, 0.7 percent and 0.9 percent, respectively. Overall, Saudi Arabia’s real gross domestic product (GDP) declined by 4.7 percent compared with the second quarter of 2025, attributed to a 24.8 percent decline in oil activities. Non-oil activities contributed positively by 0.6 percentage points to annual real GDP growth, while government activities and net taxes on products each contributed 0.1 percentage points. Oil activities made a negative contribution of 5.4 percentage points. On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, real GDP declined by 4.8 percent compared with the first quarter of 2026. Oil activities fell by 21.6 percent and non-oil activities declined by 0.4 percent, while government activities grew by 0.2 percent. On the expenditure side, government final consumption expenditure increased by 5 percent year-on-year, while gross fixed capital formation rose by 2.7 percent and private final consumption expenditure increased by 0.8 percent. For the quartely basis, government final consumption declined by 2 percent and gross fixed capital formation fell by 1.4 percent, while private final consumption grew by 1 percent. In foreign trade, exports declined by 24.6 percent year-on-year and 24 percent quarter-on-quarter, while imports fell by 14.8 percent year-on-year and 5.5 percent quarter-on-quarter. GASTAT calculates annual growth rates using non-seasonally adjusted data compared with the corresponding quarter of the previous year, while quarterly growth rates are calculated using seasonally adjusted data compared with the previous quarter.
