“By opening the door to private investment in the Big Bash Leagues, Cricket Australia is taking a deliberate step to strengthen and secure the long-term future of the game, accelerate growth and ensuring we can keep investing in community cricket and grassroots participation, domestic and international pathways and the elite level,” he added.
CA Approves ‘Self-Determination’ Model for Other BBL Teams
The Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Stars, and Perth Scorchers are understood to be interested in private investment. Cricket NSW, which oversees the Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder, along with the Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers, are currently reluctant to pursue a sale.
The move could also open the door for overseas investors, including owners from the Indian Premier League, to enter the Big Bash. However, CA will continue to have a say in any future ownership changes and branding decisions.
