Thora Birch is back on the red carpet 33 years after starring in the original Halloween classic, Hocus Pocus.
Birch, 44, who played young Dani Dennison in the original 1993 film, went on to successful roles in films like American Beauty and Ghost World. In more recent years, she appeared on The Walking Dead and in Kristen Stewart‘s directorial debut, The Chronology of Water. While the star tends to fly under the Hollywood radar, she made a rare exception to attend the 2026 AFI Fest premiere of The Mosquito Bowl at TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California. While Birch is in her forties these days, you can still see that little girl in her face to fame in Hocus Pocus.

Birch Has Dipped Her Toes into Directing
While Birch is best known for her roles in front of the camera, the actress has achieved one of her childhood dreams: directing. She shared in an interview with For Women First that she first wanted to direct at age 10. Several decades later, she fulfilled that dream when she made her directorial debut with The Gabby Petito Story in 2022.
“The way I pursued my acting career was that I wanted to try all genres, do a little bit of everything. With directing, I don’t have a mapped-out plan. I’m not looking to only do certain types of film or have a tonal calling card. While I do respect so many directors who do have that, I think I’d like to be playful in the same way that I was with my choices in my acting career.”
Is Thora Birch Appearing in Hocus Pocus 3?
Disney+ is currently developing Hocus Pocus 3, and Birch has said she’s willing to consider reprising her beloved role in the third round of the spooky flick.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Birch said she wants to know what the script will have to say for Dani, noting, “Yeah, I’d like to know what they land on for how Dani wound up. I’m super open to the idea.”
While Birch was just 11 when the film came out, she was devastated at how it bombed at the box office. However, it’s garnered such a tremendous following over the years that the film is now thought to be a classic.
“It was so devastating when it first came out. It was such a bomb, and we were all bummed because we loved making it,” Birch reflected. “We were like, ‘What, you don’t like it?’ and then ten years later they’re like, ‘Oh my God, are you that girl from ‘Hocus Pocus.’”
