John Stamos Admitted He Wasn’t Sure Lori Loughlin Was Right for ‘Full House’ at First; Here’s What Changed His Mind ...Saudi Arabia

John Stamos needed just one scene to realize Lori Loughlin could hold her own as Aunt Becky on Full House.

At a recent cast reunion, Stamos recalled initially wondering whether she was tough enough to challenge his character, Jesse Katsopolis. The longtime castmates reunited with several of their former costars at ’90s Con in Connecticut on October 18.

Loughlin said, per PEOPLE, she was originally “only supposed to come on for six episodes.” She already knew Stamos from their days in daytime television, she recalled, joking that he still teases her for presenting the award he lost to All My Children actor Darnell Williams.

Stamos said he described Loughlin as “cute” and “adorable” to series creator Jeff Franklin, but questioned whether she was “tough enough to put Jesse in his place.” His doubts didn’t last long. “Scene one, she came and she put me in my place,” he said, adding that she could pair sweetness with a little edge.

Loughlin made her first appearance in the sitcom’s second season, and she became a lasting part of the show. Full House ran for eight seasons, from 1987 to 1995, before many of its cast members reunited for the Netflix follow-up Fuller House, which ran from 2016 to 2020.

Stamos also recently spoke about another Full House costar who remains close to his heart: Bob Saget. At an October 13 fundraising event for the Scleroderma Research Foundation, Stamos said he sees reminders of his late friend in his 8-year-old son, Billy. “I’ll tell you that he is really going through my son,” he said. Saget died in January 2022 at age 65 from blunt head trauma after an accidental, unwitnessed fall.

That connection inspired a children’s book Stamos is creating with Billy, Love From Above: A Story of Tiny Birds and Their Big Meaning. The book, about how loved ones can remain present in unexpected ways, is scheduled for release on April 20, 2027.
