Caden Mahl from Westerville, Ohio has announced his commitment to continue his academic and athletic careers at Ohio State in fall 2027.
“I am extremely blessed and excited to announce my verbal commitment to The Ohio State University! I want to thank my coaches, friends, and family for all of their support through my swimming career. Thank you to Coach Kyle Goodrich and all the coaches at COA for helping me develop into the swimmer I am today. I also would like to give a special thanks to Coach Jim Hutcheson for introducing me to the sport of swimming and laying the groundwork for a lot of my success thus far. Finally, I want to thank Coach Norm Wright, Coach Brian Schrader, and all the amazing OSU staff for all their support and this great opportunity! Go Bucks!!! ”
Mahl swims for Central Ohio Aquatics and finished his long course season at Summer Juniors. There he was highlighted by a 16th place finish in the 50 free as he touched in a lifetime best 23.10 in prelims before swimming a 23.58 in the final. He also swam a lifetime best in prelims of the 100 breast (1:03.85) and final of the 50 fly (24.65).
He enters his senior season this fall for St Charles Preparatory School. This past February, Mahl swam to a 4th place finish in the 50 free (20.29) and 100 fly (48.89) at the OHSAA Division I State Championship. He also helped St Charles to relay wins in both the 200 free and 200 medley relays as he swam a 19.81 free relay split and a 21.14 fly relay split.
Mahl’s Best SCY Times Are:
50 free: 20.17 100 fly: 48.02 100 breast: 54.90The Ohio State men finished 3rd at the 2026 Big Ten Championships and went on to finish 13th at the 2026 NCAA Championships with 72 points. Tristan Jankovics led the team with 21 individual points at NCAAs.
Based on his best times, Mahl would have already made the Big Ten ‘C’ final of the 50 free as it took a 20.19 to make it back. It took a 46.48 100 fly and a 53.58 100 breast to earn a 2nd swim. Ohio State scored 82 points in the 50 free, the team’s highest scoring event at Big Tens.
Mahl will arrive next fall as a member of the class of 2031 along with Gabriel Ardeleanu, Will Van Zee, Jackson Hartzler, Luke Collins, Ewan Dalrymple, Colt Chaires, and Camren Turowski.
