Chicago Bulls Hall of Fame shooting guard Michael Jordan has been a mainstay for hobbyists basically ever since his cards hit the scene.

Per CardLadder, the six-time Finals MVP’s 1,842 listed cards represent $2.57 billion in the market today.

Now, one collector, @masterpiececollection.23, is on the cusp of wrapping up an historically complete Jordan set. On his Instagram page, @masterpiececollection.23 walks viewers through most of a 44-piece set — 17 years in the making — of Jordan’s 46 Exquisite Autograph/Patch and Autograph/Jersey cards, extracted from within normal Jordan card collections. He has a scant two left to complete the group, as Trove reshares.

“Here are 39 out of the 46 MJ Exquisite Auto/Patch and Auto/Jersey cards ever made from the regular sets. I have 5 more grading at psa so we have 44/46 total. Only need 2 more to complete the set. On top of that I wanted them all uniformly graded by PSA to make it even more special. And on top of that I did not want to just complete this set but I wanted to complete it with Top Tier examples of each card. They are not all top tier examples but I would say 80-90% are top of the line copies for each card,” @masterpiececollection.23 writes.

“There could only be 3 sets ever completed because the MJ 07-08 Quad gold is only numbered to /3 which is his rarest exquisite auto patch card. This goal has been in the works for 17 years and it is almost finally finished. Nobody has ever done this before it would be the first 1️⃣ and only time it has been done!” @masterpiececollection.23 continues. “Exquisite will always be king and it changed the game forever. Nothing can compare to it imo. For me in terms of putting together a set in basketball it don’t get any better than this besides the pmg green set if you can complete it ?‍♂️… When it is all complete I will make another video but for now here is the update.”

Jordan’s unforgettable Bulls run on the court coincided with the explosion of the NBA as an enterprise. Understandably, this led to an explosion of ancillary, NBA-adjacent markets — from sneakers to action figures to trading cards, basketball became the hot new commodity in the 1980s and ’90s.

Michael Jordan’s Bulls Legacy Extends Beyond the Court

Chicago Bulls guard Michael Jordan goes up against Utah Jazz player Bryon Russell.

The 11-time All-NBA Teamer and nine-time All-Defensive First Teamer was an absolute two-way menace practically from the jummp.

Even as a rookie in 1984-84, Jordan was an All-Star and an All-NBA Second Teamer good enough to drag an otherwise-undermanned Bulls squad back to the playoffs. While playing all 82 games, he averaged 28.2 points on 51.5 percent field goal shooting and 84.5 percent free throw shooting, 6.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 2.4 steals, and 0.8 blocks a night.

By 1987-88, Jordan had emerged as a generational scorer, and earned MVP and Defensive Player of the Year honors in the same season.

By 1989, he, Scottie Pippen, and Horace Grant had led the Bulls to the Eastern Conference Finals against the mighty Detroit Pistons, who at the time were en route to their first title that summer. By 1991, they were winning championships. When the dust had settled — even with Jordan taking a year-and-a-half-long baseball hiatus — Chicago had claimed six NBA Finals victories in eight seasons.

Jordan’s presence translated to instant box office — he had swarms of fans in every opposing arena. And for good reason.

There’s a reason Jordan’s bronze statue inside the United Center is emblazoned with the phrase, “The best there ever was, the best there ever will be.” He was an athletic marvel, the first perimeter player to truly slay the interior trees who had for so long dominated the game. He bent opposing defenses to his will, while giving as good as he got on the other end.

While Jordan went six-for-six in the NBA Finals, the 14-time All-Star printed money away from the hardwood, too. His Jumpman sneakers and a cavalcade of lip service in the press and highlight videos online have made him feel remarkably current, despite not having laced up his Nikes since 2003.

Michael Jordan’s overall card value from May-November 2026.

Over even the last six months, Jordan cards in general have seen their values within the market skyrocket.

With 170 million people tuning into NBA action last season across the league’s various broadcast partners across ABC/ESPN, Amazon Prime Video, NBC/Peacock, and NBA TV, the league enjoyed an 86 percent overall viewership increase during the first year of its new media rights deal. The increased accesibility of national games factored into that uptick, but so did an improving interest in the product.

That has rubbed off on the card market. Jordan’s historic dominance in his day has helped him maintain an elevated presence among collectors, too. His game-worn jerseys keep setting records. It’s only fitting that a dedicated MJ collector will make some history of his own.
