ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A group of local kids spent their summer making their own video games.
Friday was exhibition day at Great Lakes Gaming in Rochester’s Innovation Square. The kids learned all about programming, digital art, and the technology behind video games.
News10NBC’s Jennifer Lewke was there, proudly looking at the game her kid, Jett, made. Great Lakes Gaming’s founder said there’s lots of room for careers in the video game space — and not just in game making.
“Every kid wants to be a Youtuber. I know Jet wants to be a Youtuber. So we teach them how to use multiple tools that the professional tools that the professionals use when it comes, anywhere from newscasting to sports broadcasting and also professional Youtubers,” Ben Garvey said.
This year, Great Lakes Gaming worked with the Rochester City School District and RIT to give free camp scholarships to more than 100 kids.
