With the 2026 Commonwealth Games and 2026 European Championships now done and dusted, another athlete has announced her decision to retire mid-Olympic cycle.
Great Britain’s Ciara Schlosshan took to social media recently to reveal her decision, stating succinctly, “That’s a wrap!!! Grateful for such an enjoyable career and to have met so many incredible people along the way.”
Schlosshan retires at the age of 24, having accumulated four elite international medals.
The versatile swimmer most recently earned silver as part of GBR’s women’s medley relay at this year’s European Championships. Prior to that, Schlosshan captured 200m fly silver and mixed medley relay bronze at the 2017 European Junior Championships, followed by 200m fly silver at the same competition the following year.

Schlosshan, sister of two-time European Championships relay gold medalist Leah Schlosshan, trained at the University of Edinburgh under coach Mat Trodden, with her squad also including the likes of Archie Goodburn, Stephen Clegg and Kara Hanlon.
At this year’s Commonwealth Games, Schlosshan placed 5th in the 100m fly (57.58) and 4th in the 200m fly (2:08.39).
She retires ranked 7th on the all-time British performers list in the 100m fly and 11th in the 200m fly event.
