The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the UC Riverside Highlanders in the second match of the Crimson Tide Invitational at home on Saturday.
Head coach Rashinda Reed said that achieving two back-to-back wins at home gives the team the reassurance they need to continue to push themselves and fight throughout the rest of the season.
In Set 1, Alabama was in complete control, with 16 kills and a 6-0 run at 5-16. The Crimson Tide ended the set in the lead with 10-25.
“We talk about cleaning your play a lot,” junior setter Hannah Parant said. “I think our hitters did a really good job when the ball was up in their window — killing the ball, attacking the ball and not making errors.”
Alabama remained on top throughout Set 2. After the Highlanders tied the match at 1-1, the Crimson Tide took hold of the lead, ending the second set with 17-25.
In Set 3, the Alabama Crimson Tide pulled ahead early with 1-6 and stayed in command during the entire set. Alabama held a 10-0 run at 9-24 and finished out Set 3 10-25.
During Friday night’s match, “there was just a level of inconsistency. We were getting really emotional just based on what the other team was doing,” Reed said. “That’s something we talked about with our team, so that was really cool to see.”
Following Saturday’s win, Alabama holds a 2-0 record to kick off its 2026 season.
“We want to be starting off 2-0, but we want to finish preseason undefeated,” Parant said.
The Crimson Tide will play Northwestern University in Starkville, Mississippi on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Allstate Big Ten/SEC Challenge.
