ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Genesee Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church hosted its second annual bookbag and school supply giveaway on Sunday, helping Rochester families prepare for the new school year.
The church opened its doors during pantry hours, offering free school supplies, hot meals and access to their community pantry. Organizers say the event is about more than just giving away supplies — it’s about building trust and connection with neighbors who rely on their support.
“It’s always amazing to see that people trust us enough and feel comfortable enough to come here and rely on us as a resource. And to feel like, you know, that we always get smiles, we always get people who feel very happy to be here. It makes us feel really good,” said Sherrita Hope.
