The UNC defense held TCU scoreless across the final 49 minutes of game time Saturday in Dublin, helping the Tar Heels secure a 15-10 win in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic.

After the Horned Frogs scored points on each of their first two drives, their next seven ended with two punts, a safety, a fumble and three turnovers on downs. The last final turnover on downs came deep in Carolina territory, with the Tar Heels forcing TCU quarterback Jaden Craig into an inaccurate throw toward the goal line.
On the other side of the ball, Jaylen McGill scored UNC’s only touchdown with a nine-yard rush in the first quarter to tie the game at 10-10. Quarterback Billy Edwards, making his first start as a Tar Heel, finished 16-of-28 for 232 yards.
UNC has not lost consecutive season openers since dropping four straight from 2015-18. Now 1-0, the Tar Heels will be back in action when they host East Tennessee State in the home opener at Kenan Stadium Saturday, Sep. 12 at 12 p.m.
