ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A South Wedge business owner says thieves stole nearly all of her store’s luxury inventory in a burglary early Thursday morning.
Security footage shows two suspects breaking into FOMO on South Avenue around 3:00 a.m. Thursday. The thieves used regular city garbage totes, taken from a next-door neighbor, to haul away 181 designer items worth about $160,000, including Chanel bags, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Dior products.
News10NBC’s Adelisa Badzic spoke with owners Krista Hanny and Troy Bennett, who discovered the break-in at 11 a.m. Thursday when a friend opened the store. The couple had been out of town.
“I feel like a target because of what we sell and we really tried, we have security gates and all the things that we thought would protect us, but unfortunately it happened,” Hanny said.
The owners say the garbage cans were found down the road on Hickory, and some stuff was inside at the way bottom.
The burglary happened 24 hours before a similar break-in at Scott’s Photos on East Avenue across from Wegmans. In that case, suspects used garbage cans typically seen at parks or parties, to break through the glass windows, and hauled away camera equipment. Rochester police say it doesn’t have information connecting the two burglaries.

Insurance isn’t covering anything because this is the second break-in at FOMO in three years. The store, which has been in the South Wedge for nearly five years, now sits mostly empty.
“We really appreciate all the kind words that everyone has sent us and we really need your help to restock our inventory if we’re going to continue to be what we’ve worked so hard to be,” Hanny said.
Hanny and Bennett opened FOMO because they believe in sustainable products and utilizing pre-owned items. They say they aren’t dwelling on the past and don’t plan on leaving the South Wedge neighborhood.
FOMO plans to reopen but needs to restock its inventory. The owners are asking anyone with gently used designer bags or wallets to consider bringing them in when reselling. To keep up with its reopening date, check its Instagram here at ‘fomoluxury’.
The burglary is under investigation. Anyone with security footage or information is asked to call 911.
