Now, Curtis Jackson (known professionally as rapper 50 Cent) has taken to the UK for inspiration as he executive produces Fightland, another gripping series all about British boxing, drugs and revenge.
“I think that’s always a good thing when you’re a part of a project that is either not seen often or hasn’t been seen at all," series star Nicholas Pinnock said when asked by Radio Times.
View Green Video on the source website"I think the cast are just so fantastic. There are a lot of people that an audience may not recognise or have seen very often who just have this wonderful opportunity to showcase their talents. And that was really nice to just be a part of that as well.”
Of course, Pinnock is known for a variety of roles but has also more recently starred in Heavyweight and starred as American boxer Jack Johnson in the play, The Royale. The actor describes boxing as the perfect medium for storytelling as it "parallels a lot of the battles we go through as human beings".
When asked about it, actress Tahirah Sharif said: “I’ve been wanting to be a part of something like this for so long. I feel really proud actually to do something like this that is Black-led, that has a lot of Black creatives as well behind the camera and is, as a proud born and bred Londoner, for something that is very London, very UK to be on such a global scale like this – that’s probably one of the things that I’m most proud of."
She went on: "Viewers, especially in the US and around the world, will really get a good insight into a very authentic London – its diversity, its culture, its landmarks, everything, the streets. Where we filmed, it was all filmed in London. It’s not like we were filming in a studio pretending to be that, we were in east London a lot of the time. It’s very cool being able to shoot in your home town.”
