The 12 biggest reveals from Disney's D23 showcase this weekend – from X-Men cast to Bluey movie ...Middle East

News by : (Radio Times) -

As usual, D23 took place in Anaheim, California – very close to Disneyland – and saw fans and press invited to get a sneak peak at what's in store from the studio and its various subsidiaries in the not-so-distant future.

We've rounded up the 12 biggest reveals below – from the fully announced MCU X-Men cast to new details for the second Simpsons movie. Read on for everything you need to know.

1. Adam Driver and Obsession star join MCU's X-Men

As had been widely reported, Heartstopper's Kit Connor was confirmed to play Cyclops while Ready or Not's Samara Weaving will star as Emma Frost and the new Professor X will be Christopher Abbott (The Testament of Ann Lee).

And Feige had one more surprise to announce. He explained, "There was someone else who wanted to be here" before the big screen cut to a video of none other than megastar Adam Driver – to wild cheers from the crowd.

"Kevin and I have been talking for years about me joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe," he continued. "I think we finally found the perfect film and perfect time with characters I care very deeply about."

He then said that he would be playing the role of Magneto, only to reveal that this wasn't actually accurate and he would instead be playing Nathaniel Milbury – also known as the villain Mr Sinister.

2. New Avengers: Doomsday trailer revealed

The two-minute trailer – which is now available to view online – was introduced by stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell and paints a rather bleak picture of the state of things when the film takes place.

It's actually a very similar trailer to one shown at Comic-Con last month, but is now available for everyone to watch as fans count down the days until the film's release in December.

3. VisionQuest first-look trailer released – with intriguing new details

The trailer appears to show Vision trapped in his own mind, experiencing a virtual reality filled with other androids in human form.

While in this simulated reality, Vision also comes into contact with Ultron, played in both his robotic form and a new human form by James Spader. It seems to be a family affair, as Ultron, nominally Vision's father, makes Vision aware that his son Tommy from Wanda's hex world in WandaVision is now real.

Bettany and Spader joined Kevin Feige on stage to present the trailer, with Bettany telling the crowd: "This Vision is beginning to ask a more complicated question: What, or perhaps who, is he? And what is it that makes us actually human?

"Which brings us to the person you most want beside you during an existential crisis: Ultron. Yes, Ultron is back, and we're going to figure out humanity together. So obviously, that should go extremely well."

4. Zootropolis 3 officially confirmed by Disney after record-breaking second film

Stars Ke Huy Quan and Ginnifer Goodwin took to the stage alongside director and Disney's chief creative officer Jared Bush to announce the news and reveal that Quan and Goodwin would be reprising their roles as Gary De'Snake and Judy Hopps.

And Bush added: "You can expect to see all of the characters you want from the first two films, as the world of Zootopia goes to the birds with the arrival of some feathery flyers."

The first film in the series was released back in 2016 before the second arrived in 2025, and it looks like we can expect the gap to be a lot shorter than 9 years this time around – although an actual release date is still some way off.

5. Frozen 3 confirms first story details

"Kristen and I are so excited to be back to give you a sneak peek at what we have in store for Frozen 3," Menzel told the audience after she and Bell had sung a new version of the song Frozen Heart.

Bell then confirmed that Anna and Kristoff would be getting married, before revealing that they weren't the only two characters who would be feeling romance in the film.

"We will find ourselves far from Arendelle in a frozen land more wild and dangerous than anything Elsa has ever created," Menzel explained.

"We can't say yet," Bell said when Gad jokingly asked for more details about the villain. "And we also cannot wait to share the rest of our story with you all next year."

6. Star Wars: Starfighter confirms details about Ryan Gosling's character

The first footage of the film, which will be released in May 2027, was shown while director Shawn Levy and star Ryan Gosling took to the stage to share some details.

Levy also said that the film "takes place in a period of time that had never been shown in a Star Wars adventure", adding credence to previous reports saying that the film will be set five years after The Rise Of Skywalker, the furthest we have so far gone in the timeline.

The footage which was shown saw young actor Flynn Grey finding Auberon’s secret speeder, kicking off the adventure.

7. Ahsoka season 2 confirms release date with chilling new trailer

The new season will arrive on 20 January 2027, 3 and a half years after season 1 was released, with the trailer giving us a new look at the return of Rosario Dawson's hero, Lars Mikkelsen's villain Thrawn, and the returning Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen).

"Tell me, Ahsoka, what troubles you?" he asks. "I am always walking by your side."

"I had a vision," Ahsoka says. When asked what she saw? "War. War, and more danger than I thought."

Now, after being stranded in another galaxy, Ahsoka and her apprentice, Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) travel to find their way home – while Thrawn plunges the galaxy into all-out war.

8. Bluey movie releases first-look trailer with new animation style

The trailer showed Bluey and Bingo playing with a red balloon – before accidentally letting it touch the ground, and scooting on out of there.

The film will be written and directed by series creator Joe Brumm, who previously said of the movie: "I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on The Sign in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that."

"I’ve always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together. I’m excited to continue to partner with Cecilia Persson, Tom Fussell and the team at BBC Studios, and Dana Walden, Alan Bergman and Disney to bring this new Bluey story to the big screen."

9. The Simpsons sequel movie title and release date confirmed

The film will be called The New Simpsons Movie and will arrive in cinemas on 3 September 2027, with the news unveiled via a brand new poster and logo.

Ahead of the footage, Disney president Dana Walden said "This film doesn't come out until next September, so what you're going to see is very rough – we normally wouldn't show you something this early, but Bart insisted and when we saw this footage we agreed, you're the perfect audience to see this first. "

"There’s many things about the Simpsons on the internet that you cannot believe," he said. "My guess is that was a tossed off remark made by Nancy, I don’t know. But no, we’re never going to end, come on!"

10. Pixar confirms release dates for Incredibles 3 and Coco 2 plus new original Ghost Market

It was confirmed The Incredibles 3 will release on 16 June 16 2028, while some new details were also teased about the film, which will focus more than ever on the children in the superhero family as they sneak out to save the day.

He went on to tease "a super villain with more power than all the family put together and all of the supers" but he was cut off by an animation of classic character Edna Mode before he could go any further.

As if that wasn't enough, attendees were also treated to some first-look footage for a brand new original Pixar film titled Ghost Market, which is set for release in Spring 2028.

"He stumbles into a mysterious hidden market in the middle of nowhere. He realises his hunt for a late-night snack has turned into something bigger. He’s discovered the crossroads of the living and the dead."

11. Tangled live action confirms release date for March 2028

It was revealed that the film will arrive on 31 March 2028, while some very brief footage was also shown that depicted Rapunzel’s iconic long blonde hair before panning up to reveal the face of star Teagan Croft.

Meanwhile, there was also a video message from Croft and co-star Milo Manheim, who is playing Flynn Rider.

Manheim added: "We’ve been traveling throughout all of Spain through some very real and very beautiful places" and added that they couldn't wait to share more details.

12. New project with legacy Disney character Oswald confirmed

The three-parter will focus on a classic, often forgotten character from Disney history – a rabbit named Oswald who predates even Mickey Mouse – and will arrive on the steamer in February 2027.

"It's a personal project, and it's about a character that a lot of people haven't yet heard of, but I have a feeling that some of you in this room might know," he said.

"But sadly, when Walt tried to get the bigger budget for the next year's work, he was fired, and he lost the rights to Oswald and most of his animation team. And so Walt took that very hard and went back west along with Up Iwerks and created an iconic character, Mickey Mouse."
