If you're a fan of Disney – or any of the many, many franchises now owned by the entertainment giant – then you might be aware that the House of Mouse held its big annual convention this past weekend.
As usual, D23 took place in Anaheim, California – very close to Disneyland – and saw fans and press invited to get a sneak peak at what's in store from the studio and its various subsidiaries in the not-so-distant future.
Most of the biggest reveals were announced at the massive entertainment showcase on Friday night, and it's safe to say that fans of everything from Marvel and Star Wars to Pixar and even Bluey were left with plenty to unpack.
We've rounded up the 12 biggest reveals below – from the fully announced MCU X-Men cast to new details for the second Simpsons movie. Read on for everything you need to know.
1. Adam Driver and Obsession star join MCU's X-Men
The headline news was the full cast announcement for the MCU's upcoming X-Men reboot – while it was also confirmed that the film will be released in cinemas on 5 May 2028. MCU chief Kevin Feige made the announcement as he invited the cast to join him on stage, led by Stranger Things star Sadie Sink (who recently made her debut as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.)
As had been widely reported, Heartstopper's Kit Connor was confirmed to play Cyclops while Ready or Not's Samara Weaving will star as Emma Frost and the new Professor X will be Christopher Abbott (The Testament of Ann Lee).
Meanwhile, Obsession breakout Inde Navarette will star as Rogue, while relative newcomer Maya Bond will take on the role of Storm.
And Feige had one more surprise to announce. He explained, "There was someone else who wanted to be here" before the big screen cut to a video of none other than megastar Adam Driver – to wild cheers from the crowd.
"Hey D23," Driver said before revealing that he was recording the message from Pinewood Studios.
"Kevin and I have been talking for years about me joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe," he continued. "I think we finally found the perfect film and perfect time with characters I care very deeply about."
He then said that he would be playing the role of Magneto, only to reveal that this wasn't actually accurate and he would instead be playing Nathaniel Milbury – also known as the villain Mr Sinister.
2. New Avengers: Doomsday trailer revealed
Of course, that wasn't the only big MCU reveal – there was also another brand new trailer for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
The two-minute trailer – which is now available to view online – was introduced by stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell and paints a rather bleak picture of the state of things when the film takes place.
We see Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman warning various heroes about the dangers posed by Doom, and we also get our best look yet at the classic villain as played by Downey Jr.
It's actually a very similar trailer to one shown at Comic-Con last month, but is now available for everyone to watch as fans count down the days until the film's release in December.
3. VisionQuest first-look trailer released – with intriguing new details
Marvel was not playing around at D23, with the franchise also releasing a trailer for the upcoming Disney+ show VisionQuest, which will be released in October and will conclude a trilogy of series also including WandaVision and Agatha All Along.
The trailer appears to show Vision trapped in his own mind, experiencing a virtual reality filled with other androids in human form.
This includes James D'Arcy taking on Bettany's previous role of JARVIS, after D'Arcy also played the inspiration for that AI, Edwin Jarvis, in both Agent Carter and Avengers: Endgame.
While in this simulated reality, Vision also comes into contact with Ultron, played in both his robotic form and a new human form by James Spader. It seems to be a family affair, as Ultron, nominally Vision's father, makes Vision aware that his son Tommy from Wanda's hex world in WandaVision is now real.
Ultron urges Vision to "free us all and save your son," giving us a sense of what we can expect from the central character's journey this time around.
Bettany and Spader joined Kevin Feige on stage to present the trailer, with Bettany telling the crowd: "This Vision is beginning to ask a more complicated question: What, or perhaps who, is he? And what is it that makes us actually human?
"Which brings us to the person you most want beside you during an existential crisis: Ultron. Yes, Ultron is back, and we're going to figure out humanity together. So obviously, that should go extremely well."
4. Zootropolis 3 officially confirmed by Disney after record-breaking second film
One of the biggest announcements regarding Disney animation studios was the news that a third Zootropolis movie is in early development – after the second film in the franchise became the studio's highest-grossing animation of all time last year.
Stars Ke Huy Quan and Ginnifer Goodwin took to the stage alongside director and Disney's chief creative officer Jared Bush to announce the news and reveal that Quan and Goodwin would be reprising their roles as Gary De'Snake and Judy Hopps.
And Bush added: "You can expect to see all of the characters you want from the first two films, as the world of Zootopia goes to the birds with the arrival of some feathery flyers."
The first film in the series was released back in 2016 before the second arrived in 2025, and it looks like we can expect the gap to be a lot shorter than 9 years this time around – although an actual release date is still some way off.
5. Frozen 3 confirms first story details
Stars Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad all took to the stage to announce some new Frozen 3 details – while they also unveiled a teaser trailer for the hotly anticipated animated threequel.
"Kristen and I are so excited to be back to give you a sneak peek at what we have in store for Frozen 3," Menzel told the audience after she and Bell had sung a new version of the song Frozen Heart.
Menzel added: "Anna and Elsa are going on their biggest journey yet. Twists and turns and danger and tears and challenges and strife... or as Anna would call it, a honeymoon!"
Bell then confirmed that Anna and Kristoff would be getting married, before revealing that they weren't the only two characters who would be feeling romance in the film.
At that point, Gad arrived on the stage and performed a new love song for Olaf’s first crush, titled "Ooooh, Samantha" before the trio introduced the trailer by providing some context for the new film.
"We will find ourselves far from Arendelle in a frozen land more wild and dangerous than anything Elsa has ever created," Menzel explained.
In the trailer, attendees got a very brief look at the film's new villain – who seems to have very similar powers to Elsa – but further details are still being kept under wraps for now (and the trailer has not yet been released online.)
"We can't say yet," Bell said when Gad jokingly asked for more details about the villain. "And we also cannot wait to share the rest of our story with you all next year."
6. Star Wars: Starfighter confirms details about Ryan Gosling's character
As for news from a galaxy far, far away, we were also treated to some news regarding the plot and central character for Star Wars: Starfighter.
The first footage of the film, which will be released in May 2027, was shown while director Shawn Levy and star Ryan Gosling took to the stage to share some details.
It was confirmed that Gosling is playing a character called Kade Auberon, who was described as a guy "from the wrong side of the galaxy whose fate is intertwined with the fastest starfighter ever built".
Levy also said that the film "takes place in a period of time that had never been shown in a Star Wars adventure", adding credence to previous reports saying that the film will be set five years after The Rise Of Skywalker, the furthest we have so far gone in the timeline.
The footage which was shown saw young actor Flynn Grey finding Auberon’s secret speeder, kicking off the adventure.
7. Ahsoka season 2 confirms release date with chilling new trailer
Staying with Star Wars, the release date for Ahsoka season 2 was officially confirmed, alongside a chilling first trailer – teasing that war has arrived on Thrawn's orders.
The new season will arrive on 20 January 2027, 3 and a half years after season 1 was released, with the trailer giving us a new look at the return of Rosario Dawson's hero, Lars Mikkelsen's villain Thrawn, and the returning Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen).
The new trailer opens with a question from apparition Anakin, whose surprise appearance in season 1 stunned fans.
"Tell me, Ahsoka, what troubles you?" he asks. "I am always walking by your side."
It goes on to show us the villainous Grand Admiral Thrawn, who declares: "Citizens of the glorious empire, I took an oath to protect the Empire. I therefore declare war on the rebel alliance."
"I had a vision," Ahsoka says. When asked what she saw? "War. War, and more danger than I thought."
Now, after being stranded in another galaxy, Ahsoka and her apprentice, Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) travel to find their way home – while Thrawn plunges the galaxy into all-out war.
8. Bluey movie releases first-look trailer with new animation style
Changing things up completely, the first trailer for the highly-anticipated Bluey movie was released – and the dog and her family have got a whole new look.
The trailer showed Bluey and Bingo playing with a red balloon – before accidentally letting it touch the ground, and scooting on out of there.
The trailer also revealed that the movie has changed up the animation, using a new 3D animation style for the beloved characters - which has already proven divisive among fans.
The film will be written and directed by series creator Joe Brumm, who previously said of the movie: "I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on The Sign in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that."
"I’ve always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together. I’m excited to continue to partner with Cecilia Persson, Tom Fussell and the team at BBC Studios, and Dana Walden, Alan Bergman and Disney to bring this new Bluey story to the big screen."
9. The Simpsons sequel movie title and release date confirmed
Sticking with animation – although of a very different sort – we also got some new details about the hotly anticipated second Simpsons movie – which confirmed both its title and release date.
The film will be called The New Simpsons Movie and will arrive in cinemas on 3 September 2027, with the news unveiled via a brand new poster and logo.
Fans were also treated to some very early footage from the film, which showed a chaotic scene involving a stray baseball that Homer chases after while attending a game – leading to a hectic chase through the stadium and eventually various other locales.
Ahead of the footage, Disney president Dana Walden said "This film doesn't come out until next September, so what you're going to see is very rough – we normally wouldn't show you something this early, but Bart insisted and when we saw this footage we agreed, you're the perfect audience to see this first. "
Meanwhile, earlier in the day at a special Simpsons panel, the show's iconic creator Matt Groening shut down recent remarks from long-terms voice cast member Nancy Cartwright that the show might end after its 40th series.
"There’s many things about the Simpsons on the internet that you cannot believe," he said. "My guess is that was a tossed off remark made by Nancy, I don’t know. But no, we’re never going to end, come on!"
10. Pixar confirms release dates for Incredibles 3 and Coco 2 plus new original Ghost Market
Pixar's chief creative officer Pete Docter also took to the stage to announce several pieces of news about upcoming features in the animation studio's slate – including release dates for two hotly-anticipated sequels.
It was confirmed The Incredibles 3 will release on 16 June 16 2028, while some new details were also teased about the film, which will focus more than ever on the children in the superhero family as they sneak out to save the day.
Docter added: "A new threat is taking a heavy toll on Bob, who’s grappling with his own relevance in a world of Supers that may have outgrown him. Because even though Supers are legal again, that doesn’t mean all supers are good."
He went on to tease "a super villain with more power than all the family put together and all of the supers" but he was cut off by an animation of classic character Edna Mode before he could go any further.
Meanwhile, it was also revealed that Coco 2 will arrive in November 2029 – 12 years after the first film – and that it will focus on a now teenaged version of lead character Miguel.
As if that wasn't enough, attendees were also treated to some first-look footage for a brand new original Pixar film titled Ghost Market, which is set for release in Spring 2028.
Speaking about the project, Docter explained: "Kyle is a fast-talking teenager and content creator from Chicago. His life gets turned upside down when his mom forces him to go on vacation to Hawaii.
"He stumbles into a mysterious hidden market in the middle of nowhere. He realises his hunt for a late-night snack has turned into something bigger. He’s discovered the crossroads of the living and the dead."
11. Tangled live action confirms release date for March 2028
Disney is also pressing ahead with its live-action remake project, and as well as confirming that there will be a sequel to Lilo & Stitch, we got an official release date for the Tangled remake.
It was revealed that the film will arrive on 31 March 2028, while some very brief footage was also shown that depicted Rapunzel’s iconic long blonde hair before panning up to reveal the face of star Teagan Croft.
Kathryn Hahn – who will play villain Mother Gothel in the film – was on stage to share the news, adding: "I love Mother Gothel, I love playing her, she’s the best kind of villain. She’s the kind who thinks they’re actually the hero!”
Meanwhile, there was also a video message from Croft and co-star Milo Manheim, who is playing Flynn Rider.
"We're devastated to be missing D23 with you all, but we’re busy filming in beautiful Spain," Croft said.
Manheim added: "We’ve been traveling throughout all of Spain through some very real and very beautiful places" and added that they couldn't wait to share more details.
12. New project with legacy Disney character Oswald confirmed
Jon Favreau was a very busy man at D23, and one announcement from the Mandalorian chief which went down especially well with die-hard Disney fans was an update on his new Disney+ series Oswald.
The three-parter will focus on a classic, often forgotten character from Disney history – a rabbit named Oswald who predates even Mickey Mouse – and will arrive on the steamer in February 2027.
Favreau shared some first-look footage from the show, which combines live action with 2D animation, while also detailing why it had been such a passion project for him to bring to life.
"It's a personal project, and it's about a character that a lot of people haven't yet heard of, but I have a feeling that some of you in this room might know," he said.
"His name is Oswald. Now, that is the character that Walt Disney created with his longtime partner Ub Iwerks before Mickey Mouse back in 1927, they had a successful run with Oswald doing animated shorts.
"But sadly, when Walt tried to get the bigger budget for the next year's work, he was fired, and he lost the rights to Oswald and most of his animation team. And so Walt took that very hard and went back west along with Up Iwerks and created an iconic character, Mickey Mouse."
The new series will put Oswald – who Disney officially required the rights to in 2006 – back in the spotlight, focusing on him as he finds himself released by an earthquake and attempts to adapt to the modern world with the help of a group of kids.
