The night three heat sheet is in for the 2026 Pan Pacific Championships. World record holder Summer McIntosh stayed ahead of the speculation already by announcing that she would be swimming the 400 free B final tonight after missing the A final. While there are no jaw-dropping scratches to report on, there are a relatively large number of them – most from B finals.
The lone A-final scratch came from China’s versatile Yu Yiting. The 20-year-old is foregoing her championship heat spot in the 50 breaststroke, in which she placed 7th this morning. The decision likely came so she can focus on her other event – the 100 fly. She is a more serious medal contender in that event, finishing 4th this morning and only .01 behind the third place time.
Another noticeable name on the scratch sheet is American Gabriel Jett. He had a big breakout in the 200 freestyle, racing to a silver medal. He has opted out of his 200 back B final spot which he earned by placing 9th this morning. Jett has no individual events for tonight.
In the men’s 400 free, one Kiwi dropped which caused another Kiwi to move in. Lewis Clareburt placed 16th, but he scratched and bumped teammate James Leigh into the B final mix.
