Marshand Crisler, former interim Hinds County sheriff, is released from prison and put on house arrest ...Middle East

News by : (Mississippi Today) -

Former interim Hinds County sheriff Marshand Crisler, who was convicted on bribery charges in 2024, is out of federal prison and under house arrest.

Crisler was originally sentenced to two and a half years in prison, three years of supervision and a $15,000 fine.

The U.S. Bureau of Prisons confirmed Tuesday that he was transferred to community confinement on Aug. 3 and will serve the rest of his sentence on house arrest in Hinds County.

In November 2024, Crisler was convicted of soliciting and accepting $9,500 in bribes from Tonarri Moore, a convicted felon who according to federal officials was acting as an FBI informant. Crisler, who served as a Jackson City Council member from 2001 to 2009, was found guilty by a jury after a three-day trial in Jackson.

While serving as interim sheriff for part of 2021, Crisler was accused of telling Moore about investigations involving him, moving Moore’s cousin to a safer part of the Hinds County jail, giving him a job with the sheriff’s office and allowing Moore to have a gun despite being a convicted felon.

The U.S. Bureau of Prisons’ website on Tuesday still listed Crisler’s release date as Dec. 9, 2026.

Crisler’s wife, Eva Howard Crisler, posted on Facebook celebrating his release.

“You are finally home where you belong. I thank God for bringing you safely home, and I am grateful for the opportunity to begin this new chapter together,” she wrote.
